Rheem Water Heater Training We had a great time this week in our Lewisville, TX Innovation Learning Center. From the seasoned guys, to the young apprentices, we all learned quite a bit about #heatpumpwaterheaters and #tanklesswaterheaters We even snuck in some Water Heater 101. These folks from Louisiana (and one guy from Texas) were a pleasure to spend time with and left with a much better knowledge of all-things water heating, thanks to their enthusiastic participation. Shout-out to Patrick Brown and Jeff Reimer

What do you think is one of the biggest impacts of a poor EPA management system on EPAOs? You may not have said your EPA delivery team's morale - but now that we have said it, do you find yourself agreeing? Like Laura Topliss of DNA Awarding we are all involved in end-point assessment because we want to help apprentices achieve. That's why it's so frustrating when our best intentions are held back by our outdated systems. For large EPAOs, as well as those just starting out, the solution that has helped EPA delivery teams do their best work has been epaPRO. Why not read @Laura's story - we guarantee you may have faced some of the same issues https://bit.ly/3VmxNVJ

DID YOU KNOW? 📢🧐💡 Despite federal funding through Perkins V legislation, Career and Technical Education (CTE) is often the lowest priority of a school budget. Schools receiving this funding must establish a local advisory committee that enables local business leaders to get involved. HOW TO GET INVOLVED 🫵 Contact your local school to inquire about partnership or apprenticeship opportunities, or if the school has a CTE program, ask about serving on the advisory board. Partner with Explore The Trades to help bring trades awareness and on-demand educational tools to educators, parents, and students to set the stage for the future workforce: https://lnkd.in/esaqyakw WHAT WE'RE DOING ABOUT IT 👊 Explore The Trades provides classroom resources to schools across the country to set the stage for skilled trades exploration. These resources help bridge the information gap between education and industry. Starting with Spring semester 2024 we have some exciting new options in our Building Automations Systems (BAS) classes, made possible thanks to a generous grant from Johnson Controls (JCI), including an all-new course called BAS Fire & Alarm Systems. o People who are new to the field… recent high school grads, those recently separated from the military, career changers, and the like… will be eligible for 100% free tuition, thanks to the JCI grant. o Techs with experience in Building Automation, HVAC, boiler operations, building maintenance and the like will be eligible for STIT funding from the State which reduces tuition by 50%! o Every student who receives funding from JCI, is assigned a mentor from Johnson Controls to help smooth their transition into the field of Building Automation Systems. o In addition, everyone who gets the JCI funding will be slotted into an internship at JCI or another prominent local employer. As a part of this Capstone Project everyone else will take part in an externship or a research project at their own company. o Funding from Johnson Controls has also made possible a half-dozen Desktop Training Units that will allow students to control building systems using programmable controls and instantly see if their code worked. Registration is available now. For interested parties, there’s three easy steps: 1. Create a profile here: https://lnkd.in/gDH7S4QG 2. Reading several post lately, talking about college vs trade school. I have my own kids growing up and thinking about their own future and weather college is right for them or not. I had a thought today, what if we redesign college? What if trade school involved both regular college courses along with learning job skills? I didn’t go to college or trade school. I am a second generation refrigeration tech/owner, but often wished I had furthered my education with some college courses. What if trade schools not only taught the job skills but also prepared them for other skills they will need as they get further along in their careers?

WEDNESDAY WHO’S WHO The year 1981 for our Year 10 students at CBC was marked with a blend of social events, outdoor activities, and an expanded curriculum that introduced practical trade skills and essential life skills. Highlights were noted as the barbecue with St. Ann's and the Year 10 Walk along the coast to Childers Cove. However perhaps the most significant was the continued broadening of the Year 10 curriculum to engage students in subjects and careers to include practical trade training. Through a collaboration with Warrnambool Technical College, students were given opportunities to gain hands-on experience in various trades, including building construction, motor maintenance, plumbing, welding and typing. With the curriculum recognising the importance of practical life skills, students also gained access to pre-driver training. These courses aimed to prepare students for real-world responsibilities, enhancing their independence and readiness for adulthood. Who are the familiar faces you can find among Year 10 Red, now the Class of 1983? #wednesdaywhoswho #emmanuelalumni #connectedasone

This week, building science and energy-efficiency expert Shawna Henderson is making the case for dumping trickle-down training and building more bottom-up education opportunities to sustainably grow the construction workforce needed to retrofit millions of homes. "We need a technically savvy, mobilized, and motivated workforce to take advantage of all of the advances and innovations in [building science] materials, methods, and equipment. And a large portion of the industry workforce learns their skills outside of formal education. Learning by doing is a good strategy for hands-on work but right now we’re expecting folks to gain comprehensive technical knowledge in new construction and retrofit work (that fits their climate and region) from YouTube videos, websites, and social media clips. This is not the way to build capacity." Check it out! #Construction #EnergyEfficiency #Workforce #Retrofits #CleanEnergy
