Doors 🚪 I recently drew a picture of my career. It had arrows, but I should have drew doors. Doors open and close. Arrows, typically, do not. ➡️ Which door or doors will you take? I’ve opened and closed many doors. Sometimes I’ve taken a leap of faith. Other times, the door was held for me. Know a door can open and you can take it. Know a door can close and that’s okay. You get to make the choice how you feel once it happens. Whether you made the door move or someone else. Reflection Questions: Do I like standing in the doorway? Do I want to be on one side or the other? Is this the right door for me? Doors. 🚪 Use them, reflect on them, open and close them. You never know what might happen. Did I mention you should peek in doors you don’t know? You may just walk through. #leadershiplessons #careergrowth #ProudtobeIP

It's not uncommon for me to go downtown Encinitas on Saturdays for breakfast. I generally take the same route. Today for some reason, I took a different route. As a result, I discovered something wonderful that I would have missed. At Moonlight Beach there was a car show going on. It was incredible! I would have never known had I gone the "normal" way. The result was an amazing and very unexpected experience. When it comes to helping our people be great, improving team dynamics, putting together off sites or aligning leadership teams, it is so easy to fall into taking the same or similar "route" every single time. We do it because it's easy, comfortable, less risky etc. But it also is limiting. The totality of experience matters. Experience done right is a combination of connection, fun, clarity, belief, productivity and possibility. But...when we DISCOVER that new thing that provides that undeniable magic we feel satisfied, grateful and even proud. Who doesn't want to feel that way when it comes to amplifying your great people? If you don't do that for them, their next employer will. #leadership #teambuilding #offsites #employeeengagement

One day a man came across 3 stonecutters. Each one was cutting out a block of stone. Curious as to what they were doing he asked the first stone cutter what he was doing. He replied – ‘’I am cutting this stupid piece of stone.” The second one said - “I am cutting this block of stone to make sure that it’s sides are straight and smooth so that the builder can build a straight wall.” The third said - “I am building a cathedral.” The 3rd man as you all know, knew his purpose. He would stay. The first would be the first one to resign and the second would follow. As leaders, it is up to you to help your team know their purpose and help them see how their work is tied to their purpose. Once people see and know how they are contributing to the growth or success of the organization, they are going to stay, assuming that they are happy with the money and other things. Resignations happen largely due to a bad leader, bad culture and the failure of the organization to make their people see that the work they do, links with their purpose. People perform well when they see their contribution to the growth of the organization.
