As the 150th Kentucky Derby quickly approaches, how do you plan to celebrate the Run for the Roses 🐎 🌹 without putting your recovery, or the recovery of a loved on, at risk? Here are a few tips ⬇️ 1. Plan ahead. 2. Avoid being alone. 3. Spend quality time with a group of sober friends. 4. Host your own Derby party. 5. Get crafty and enjoy a Derby mocktail. 6. Make short appearances and drive yourself. 7. Keep it simple and don’t stress too much about what everyone else is doing.

Scottie Scheffler's wife, Meredith, did not join him in Augusta this weekend because she is pregnant with their first child. On Saturday, it was reported that if she went into labor prior to him teeing off on Sunday, he would withdraw from the Masters and forfeit his chance at a second green jacket. At that point, he was leading the field at (-7). If you are not a golf fan, I'll spoil the surprise for you: Scottie finished the tournament at (-11) on Sunday, becoming a Masters champion for the second time in 3 years. I read many, many comments that called out how foolish this would have been. But the one that stood out to me most was this: "He'll be a dad for decades, but his kid will have to live with the guilt of causing his dad to lose the Masters for his whole life." When your identity is rooted in what you do and your accomplishments, I can see how that comment rings true. Scottie's identity is found in something much greater than a green jacket. Much greater than his accomplishments. It is rooted in Christ Jesus and His finished work upon the cross, defeating Satan, Sin, and Death. Amazing perspective by Scottie on this Monday morning. Last week at a luncheon, a few old mates (Denis Pagan, Dr Harry Unglik & Wayne Carey) of the North Melbourne FC 1996 Premiership Team gathered to celebrate Corey McKernan’s 50th birthday. The occasion turned into a journey through time, revisiting football victories, pivotal moments, fun times, resilience and the development of life principles forged over the past 25 years. Conversations shifted to nostalgic reflections as memories flowed, victories were recounted and the challenging times that have been life shaping. The parallels between past sporting principles and present-day realities became evident. The key messages that resonated were the importance of principles like accountability, discipline, hard work, belonging and the need for a vision. All proving to be pivotal for their success at the time. The notion of vision emerged as a significant aspect of this success and a driving force in sport, business and life. The celebration transformed into a living testament to the enduring nature of these principles, living philosophies which shaped their journeys.
