“My therapists told me that 1 hour rehabilitation per day is enough” That was what a patient told me recently after an evaluation at the Centro Europeo de Neurociencias to carry out an intensive upper limb therapy protocol. When we carry out an intensive treatment to try to recover as much as possible the arm and hand of a person who has suffered a stroke, we have to take into account two fundamental aspects: what are we going to do, and how much are we going to do it, that is, what principles of treatment and techniques we are going to apply and in what dose. In this publication, inspired by John Krakauer I share some important principles for recovery of the upper limb after stroke. Looking forward to hear your experiences and thoughts.

Ever Feel Like You’re on a Hamster Wheel? It doesn’t matter how fast a hamster runs, there is always more wheel. The scenery never changes. No matter how fast we run in clinical research, the problems never seem to change (except during the pandemic). We need to get off the wheel, take a breath, and start working together more strategically. Ready to get off the wheel? Learn more at www.sitecouncil.org.

What does it look like to live on the redemptive edge? I'm reflecting on a great time at the Praxis Summit last week. I appreciated the chance to meet more of the Praxis community, was encouraged by the showcase of the ventures that Praxis has been working with over this past year, and was challenged by the plenary talks from Dave Blanchard, Andy Crouch, and Dave Evans. As the semester finished, I've been taking some time over this last week to revisit my own desire to be living on the redemptive edge and pondering three ways that I might re-risk this year: proximity, community, and sacrificial blessing. 1. Proximity: Pay attention to your square mile Embrace the risk of building in my local community, despite the additional consequences that accompany failure. 2. Community: Pursue scenius, not genius The true engine of creative work is not found in the individual, but in the community. I want to double click on Kevin Kelly's idea of scenius, finding ways to cultivate and participate in these creative, collaborative groups of like-minded people. 3. Sacrificial Blessing: Go beyond the win-win Limiting ourselves to win-win situations caps our potential for creative restoration. I'm asking myself how I might go beyond the win-win to voluntarily sacrifice my own interests to bless those around me. Full post linked in the comments below if you'd like to subscribe or read more.
