LGBTQ+ couples in the Czech Republic can enter into a “registered partnership,” but they can’t get married. The legal difference between the two, overlooked by the Czech parliament for 13 years, is huge. In under 2 months, the Czech House of Commons will decide the fate of the constitutional ban on gay marriages. This means it's time to act now. 🏳️🌈 At Wingbot, we believe same sex parents and their children deserve dignity and legal protection, and 67% of the Czech population agrees with us (marking an 18% increase since the population was last polled in 2015.) We urge the Czech government to give LGBTQ+ Czechs a bill that is Nothing Short of Equal – no caveats, just marriage for all, plain and simple. As we get closer to Election Day in the U.S. in 2024, we must continue to call out hateful rhetoric espoused by anti-LGBTQ+ politicians and activists that directly impact LGBTQ+ youth. According to the 2024 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People by The Trevor Project, 90% of youth who responded said that recent politics have often negatively affected their well-being. 90 percent of our LGBTQ+ youth! A record number of anti-LGBTQ+ policies have been introduced and implemented in the last year — and they’re having a negative impact on LGBTQ+ young people’s mental health. Nearly 2/5 of LGBTQ youth and almost half of transgender and nonbinary youth said they or their families have considered moving to different states because of anti-LGBTQ+ politics and laws. The U.S. is and must continue to be a place of freedom, pursuit of happiness, and liberty for all. All means all. TLDR: Support me in raising money for queer individuals in Russia I have been busy and will share my recent professional developments later but now I would like to tell you about something else exciting I have been doing. 17 May is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. It also happens to be my 30th birthday!!!! So, I decided to do something meaningful and cool for that. I AM RAISING €2500 FOR THE ComingOut LGBTQ+ group who directly support LGBTQ+ individuals in Russia. You may know that the situation for queer people in Russia is dire and has become significantly worse in the last 2 years. Several discriminatory laws have been passed which means that LGBTQ+ in Russia of all ages have virtually no protection and support available for them. This is why I'm doing this. Every euro donated will directly fund legal assistance for LGBTQ+ individuals in Russia. To give you an idea: - €50 Donation: Funds a legal consultation, providing essential advice and support to individuals facing discrimination or legal challenges. - €200 Donation: Covers the costs of a lawyer's appearance in court, essential for defending rights in crucial legal battles. - €400 Donation: Supports an appeal in court, helping to challenge unfair decisions and strive for justice in higher courts. Movement Advancement Project (MAP) Unrestricted and Unprecedented: The Impact of MacKenzie Scott’s Large Gifts on LGBTQ Organizations provides an analysis of the impact of the philanthropist’s gifts to LGBTQ movement organizations. The report’s findings are based on a survey of LGBTQ organizations conducted by MAP in April 2023. The survey examined the scope of the gifts received and the impact that these unrestricted gifts have had so far. Hi everyone. So, feeling helpless, angry, or scared about the challenges facing the trans community? Wondering what you can do? First, remember, you're not the protagonist in this story. Let me explain. In a fictional world, you might be the hero who single-handedly saves the day. But real life isn't a story. Trans individuals aren't characters in your narrative. Your role is not to be the lone savior but to be part of a larger movement advocating for change. The work to support trans people everywhere isn't about single heroic acts. It's about collective, sustained effort. You won't solve all problems or end transphobia overnight, but your actions contribute to a broader, impactful movement. Start by donating. There are numerous organizations advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. Search for them. Explore platforms like GoFundMe for specific causes. Get organized. Use your existing networks - whether it's your church, hobby club, union, or online communities like Slack and Discord. Promote trans rights, start fundraisers, draft public statements, and coordinate letter-writing campaigns to politicians. Contact your elected officials. Make it clear that discrimination against trans people is unacceptable. Demand their public support for trans rights. Stay informed about local legislation that impacts the LGBTQ+ community and take a stand. Put the pieces together. Identify upcoming bills, organize letter-writing campaigns, raise funds, and make donations. If this were Encanto, you and I, we are the villagers at the end. We don’t have special powers, no one will know our names. But when we show up, when we put in the work, we can remake the world. It is small and mundane and there is no trophy. The work saves lives. To move beyond allyship and commit to being an accomplice for Queer, Trans, and Two-Spirit people requires active engagement in advocacy - from participating in demonstrations to contacting local representatives and supporting queer, Trans, and Two-Spirit-affirming organizations and movements. It involves uplifting and amplifying Queer, Trans, and Two-Spirit voices by sharing their stories, experiences, and accomplishments on public platforms. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🪶 It requires not only showing support, but also challenging systemic barriers and fighting for meaningful, lasting change. This includes educating oneself on Queer, Trans, and Two-Spirit issues, using one's CISHET, WHITE privilege to create space for Queer, Trans, and Two-Spirit communities, advocating for policy changes that protect and uplift them. This includes addressing inequalities within healthcare, education, and housing, by actively engaging in anti-discrimination efforts within those systems. Becoming a true accomplice means challenging harmful societal norms and beliefs, and using one's influence to encourage others in their social circles,professional networks and tribal communities to be accomplices as well. By moving beyond allyship, we can work towards a more just and equitable society where all Queer, Trans, and Two-Spirit people feel accepted, valued, and empowered to live authentically. Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) is a worldwide observance held every March 31st to celebrate the lives and contributions of transgender people. It's also a day to raise awareness of the challenges they face, including discrimination, poor health, hatred & violence. Despite progress, sadly there's been a growing backlash from anti-LGBTQ activists, particularly targeting trans individuals, including children. By celebrating Trans individuals contributions and highlighting their experiences, we continue to break down barriers and promote understanding. As allies, there are many things we can do to support trans individuals. Here are some actionable steps we can take: - Educate Yourself: Take the time to learn about transgender experiences, terminology, and challenges. Understand the diversity within the trans community. Read books, articles, and watch documentaries or interviews featuring trans individuals. Educate yourself on their history and contributions. - Use Correct Pronouns: Respect people’s gender identity by using their preferred pronouns. If you’re unsure, ask politely. Practice using pronouns correctly to create an affirming atmosphere. - Be an Ally: Stand up against discrimination and prejudice. If you witness transphobia, address it calmly and educate others. If you can, attend LGBTQ+ events, rallies, and workshops to show your support. The power of being an active, respectful ally is so welcomed by the community! - Listen Actively: Listen to trans people’s stories and experiences. Understand their unique challenges and triumphs. Be empathetic and validate their feelings. 🌈A Marketing Campaign by an unexpected media platform that changed everything! 🩸 When people question if marketing can not only work but create change (I am looking at you financial services), then I talk about this as one of the best examples. They can when they bring together the power of community, brand, and communication. This remarkable campaign by @Ladbible not only changed the perception of who the media platform was for but also created huge change. It took on the outdated UK policy restricting gay and bi men from donating blood, igniting conversation and leading to groundbreaking change. Here's a snapshot of the journey: 🔍 Background: Partnering with @FreedomToDonate, it challenged discriminatory blood donation policies amidst a 25% decline in male donations. 💡 What They Did: Launching on @UNILAD, reaching 45M+, it unveiled the "Blood Without Bias" hub & "Illegal Blood Bank," which highlighted the absurdity of safe blood going to waste. Breaking stereotypes by tackling an issue overlooked in mainstream "straight male content" platforms like Lad Bible. 🚀 Results: It pushed an investigation from the Department of Health & UK policy shift, allowing gay & bi men to donate freely. SCG's Public Policy Team is excited to launch our new event series, Paving Pathways for Democracy Funding, for funders interested in incorporating democracy funding into their portfolios and those looking to grow their ongoing democracy efforts. We believe that to support the communities we serve and create a diverse and representative government, we must continue expanding philanthropy's definition of democracy funding. To that end, we will host four sessions exploring how funders can engage with democracy work, beginning with our first session, Engaging in Deep Connection to Reduce Anti-Transgender Bias. Over the last several years, we have witnessed a dramatic increase in anti-LGBTQ+ sentiments and a wave of legislation across the country targeting trans and gender non-binary peoples' ability to live openly and freely. This hostility has reached local school boards, with groups using 'parental rights' as a pretext to push anti-LGBTQ+ policies. Today, we continue to see countless bills emerge designed to ban inclusive literature, enforce harmful outing practices, and prevent trans youth from participating in sports according to their identity. Join us and the Los Angeles LGBT Center on Thursday, August 15, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for a candid discussion about how community leaders and funders can collaborate to combat political prejudice and foster a culture of acceptance.
