Henry Negedu Urges FG To Appoint Coordinators For Smooth Safety Net Distribution Of 20 Trucks of Rice To Each State A call has been made to the Federal Government to appoint 774 Local Government Area (LGA) Coordinators to oversee the distribution of safety nets across the country. This recommendation comes after the recent release of 20 trucks of rice to each state government, which failed to reach those in need due to political patronage. Comrade Henry Negedu, an Abuja-based Policy Analyst and Public Administrator, emphasized the need for a more effective distribution system. "The FG, through the Ministry of Agriculture or the Presidency, should appoint 774 LGA Safety Net Coordinators to supervise the distribution of palliatives across the over 8,000 political wards in the country," he stated. Negedu argued that this approach would ensure that the target audience receives the intended support, alleviating the current hardship faced by the majority of Nigerians. He offered his expertise to assist the President in implementing this proposal, stating, "I'm available to provide more insights to ensure faithful implementation." This suggestion aims to address the challenges in the current distribution system, which has been marred by diversion and political patronage. By appointing LGA Coordinators, the Federal Government can ensure that safety nets reach those who need them most, making a tangible impact on the lives of Nigerians.

If it makes its way through the legislative process, the Fresh Produce Procurement Reform Act will help strengthen the connection between the USDA, American farms, and the national produce supply chain. Essentially, it’s a produce-purchasing program that aims to distribute fresh food to those who need it most, purchased from small and mid-size growers. Once acquired, the food will be distributed to “local food banks, schools, youth-serving organizations, tribal governments, and other nonprofit community members serving nutrition-insecure populations.” We explored this groundbreaking legislation in a recent blog post. What is the plan?   The National Food Donation Tax Incentive.   Yesterday Brianna Casey joined the CEOs from food relief sector organisations, Ronni Kahn AO OzHarvest and Daniel Moorfield SecondBite at Parliament House in Canberra, to drive awareness of this critical tax reform and to seek action on the national crisis of food insecurity which calls on the need for Federal funding.   There were lots of positive conversations supporting the National Food Donation Tax Incentive with Dean Smith and Senator Perin Davey. Food waste is firmly on the table with Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek and on the national agenda for 2024.   There has never been a more important time to support what we do. Collectively, we provide over 80% of the total food relief nationally and feed more than a million people per month. There is no doubt that we are in a food crisis as the cost of living continues to rise, so does demand for our services. Our job is to make sure that edible food is not wasted and goes to feed those who need it most. As a sector we are feeling and reeling from the need and our ask to Government is to help us put food on the table for those who need it most. #EndHunger
