Deputy General Counsel - General Counsel 1 Salary Range: $50.25 - $71.95 / hourly; $104,922 - $150,231 / annually This position will play a key role in the Office of General Counsel at MDE. MDE's Office of General Counsel provides leadership and legal expertise to support the Department's compliance with state and federal laws so that MDE can best fulfill its mission to ensure that every child in Minnesota receives a quality education, no matter their race or zip code. The Deputy General Counsel will lead a team of attorneys to provide legal advice and expertise to the Department on a wide array of issues and matter types. Specifically, this position will: -Manage a team of attorney(s) and legal staff; -Assist the General Counsel in coordinating and managing the Department's legal advice and litigation; -Provide legal advice to the Department on a variety of complex issues; -Collaborate with other Department staff concerning implementation of the Department's policies and practices; -Coordinate with the Attorney General's Office regarding the Department's legal disputes and litigation; -Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; -Manage the development of legal training on a variety of topics to Department staff; -Oversee the Department's rulemaking activities; -Coordinate and complete special projects as assigned by the General Counsel; and -Assume the duties of General Counsel in case of absence.
