The fastest and easiest way to get rid of unneeded medical items is to donate them. Depending on the items, consider the following options for donation: A local hospice, nursing home, church, Veterans Affairs hospital, or Center for Independent Living Charities, including Alliance for Smiles, American Red Cross, American Medical Resource Foundation, Easter Seals, Med-Eq, MedShare, Project CURE, and United Way A local Goodwill store or Salvation Army Eyeglasses The Lions Club Recycle for Sight program, Eyes for the Needy, and New Eyes A local eye doctor who may participate in one of these programs Hearing aids The Starkey Hearing Foundation Hear Now program The Lions Club Hearing Aid Recycling Program, Hearing Charities of America, and Hearing Loss Association of America In some instances, charitable giving has the added benefit of being tax-deductible. Receipts can be given during an in-person donation or requested from the organization in the case of drop-box or mail donations. I know that it's important to demonstrate impact - to share what a donation can do/ and also, what a donation can't do. So today, I want to share how a gift of $61 with a MATCH will help a hungry child and his family in Ethiopia. There is no single story in Ethiopia. There are so many amazing spaces in Ethiopia -- mountains and farmland and cities and villages. There are more than 80 languages and just as many tribes. What a beautiful and complex country it is. Roots Ethiopia is an NGO, using community informed solutions for education and job creation. Over more than 10 years of work, there are success stories (we tell those), and there are stories of need (we tell those too). This is a story of need. This is a story of hunger. There are hungry people all over the world. In Ethiopia, the cost of food has sky-rocketed and consecutive droughts have made it very hard for some families to do more than work SO hard every day just to provide a far too meager amount of food for their children. In rural Ethiopia, in the area where this work is done by Roots Ethiopia, over 80% of the people are small scale farmers. MANY families are struggling. This is the story of Dawit that Roots Ethiopia shared on #GivingTuesday, with his mom's permission. His mom searches for work (day labor) every day while Dawit stays at home to watch his baby sister. He doesn't go to school. Dawit and his baby sister were hungry, and mom never had enough time to plan for a better future -- always in crisis mode, always worrying at the start and the end of every day. Sometimes coming home empty handed, sometimes with a little bit of food but not enough for comfort and security. Today, Dawit's family has food. Dawit smiles. His mom smiles. Baby sister feels better. Dawit is headed back to school, and mom will start selling small vegetables in the market, where she can bring her baby and see other moms doing the same. She has some extra grain she will sell to get started. It's HER plan and she's beaming with confidence. This is a story of bravery, determination, help, and hope. The team didn't waste a moment to feed this hungry family within days of receiving their story of need. Taking care of each other really matters. Together, we help each other and make the world a better place. I'm holding on to this story as I work through the next few weeks, asking you to help a family just like Dawit's. Here is what your gift will do: $30 feeds a child and their family for 2 weeks $61 feeds a child and their family for 1 month $122 feeds a child and their family for 2 months $244 feeds 2 children and their families for 2 months AND YOUR GIFT WILL BE MATCHED! Link to Give: https://lnkd.in/g7wzstjx Thank you for reading this reflection on the past week. It's a LOT to hold all of these stories of need for food right now. It feels so good to share this success. 💞
It's our honor to share with you one of the most beautiful set of smiles BECAUSE this family has food. Dawit's sweet family received food because of the kindness and generosity of supporters last week. We know you are action oriented, and so are we. The team at Roots Ethiopia was nimble and sensitive as they quickly delivered the food that this family so desperately needed. You can join the movement to feed a hungry child this season. AND YOUR GIFT WILL BE MATCHED! You can count on us to understand how important it is to make haste and satisfy hungry tummies. Thank you beautiful people, for making the world a better place! Eating disorders are pervasive and life-threatening. They are mental illnesses with often severe physical repercussions, and they have the potential to cause lifelong harm to a person of any age, gender, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. Missouri Eating Disorders Association presents at schools in the Greater St. Louis region to educate the most vulnerable populations - our kids, tweens, and teenagers - on the signs and symptoms of eating disorders. The two main takeaways of the presentation? 1. How to ask for help for yourself or a friend ("tell a trusted adult!"), and 2. Recovery is possible. I believe so fully in the importance of this program and the incredible capabilities of the MOEDA team. Early education and prevention of eating disorders saves lives. The students we serve - and all kids - deserve full lives filled with the regular ups & downs that life undoubtedly brings. Together, we can fight eating disorders, strengthen our community, and work to change the narrative of diet culture. Today is GiveSTL Day. Please consider supporting MOEDA. Thank you! https://lnkd.in/gAvpTeNi

You wouldn't believe how expensive it is to stock a bathroom! 😨 That's why we're running a fundraiser to help buy bathroom supplies for our Partnered Children's Homes! It costs about $25-$35 per month to provide each child with things like: 👉 Feminine hygiene products 👉 Toothpaste 👉 Combs and hair products 👉 Toilet paper 👉 Deodorant 👉 Shampoo and soap And right now, our Partnered Children's Homes care for a combined 7️⃣ 0️⃣ kids! If you do that math, it comes out to $2,450 a month in bathroom supplies. This is a significant burden we want to unload from our Partnered Children's Home. So, let's raise $2450 or more! As always, 💯 % of every donation goes straight to the cause. https://lnkd.in/gkmXwe9n #charitywork #nonprofitwork #fightpoverty #nonprofitorganization #nonprofitlife
