I want you to seriously consider crowdfunded mini-conferences as an inclusive future of events in our industry.
Here are 5 reasons why I wholeheartedly support this idea from my good friend Kirk Schmidt:
● For starters, Kirk is one of the smartest, kindest humans I know. He is deeply passionate about our work, and I would agree with him 99.9% on anything he says (the 0.1% is in case his favorite ice cream flavor differs from mine!).
● Mini conferences like this can create space for richer discussions between new voices and new audiences in a region.
● Local nonprofits can share this platform to design a “celebratory room” where each org can set up a table showcasing “our mission to [] is important to me because…”. I am talking about a serious NPD vibe without waiting for an entire year.
● Crowdfunding makes a space like this accessible for both – the attendees and the speakers. It allows for a diverse range of individuals and organizations to contribute financially feasible to them, thus enabling individuals and nonprofits from all sizes and stories to participate.
● Mini conferences like this can build a sense of ownership and participation in the local communities to build wisdom around topics that matter to our work today.
And a bonus reason for my vote here? Through this mini-conference, I am in the company of incredibly thoughtful and smart thinkers here (Allison Rolle, Michelle Flores Vryn, CFRE, Anne Murphy, Louis Diez, and Kirk) who share their wisdom and energy on this platform - almost daily - for our industry!
So, push that envelope for inclusion + collective learning with us.
