This advice does not account for the risk of reaching not the sharpest tool in the shed. While brilliant people can simulate others pattern of speech or thinking, dumb ones simply can’t. More often they have a challenge to actually clarify their own fundamental thought. Why to ask them on top to dumb down something, that has already been dumb? I find it more useful to ask them to rephrase their idea and find an example that pictures it. Usually they can’t and that means they are struggling, thus they won’t make any use of an attempt to dumb down that struggle.
