The history of electric cars dates back to 1834, when the first electric car was invented. The commercialization of electric vehicles started in 1852, but the early models did not use rechargeable electric batteries. It wasn't until 1850 when Gaston Planté invented the rechargeable lead acid battery and later, Camille Faure's work made it a success. In 1899, Camille Jenatzy's "Jamais Contente" broke the speed record by exceeding 100 km/h. Let’s dive into some EV history! 🤓 The first electric-powered vehicle was introduced in the 1800s. While it doesn’t resemble the modern EVs you’ll see on the street, they were pretty advanced and relatively popular at the time. Look at this Nanos survey on EVs: "Level of support for a total ban on the USE of gas-powered cars and SUVs as of 2035" Who said that banning the USE of gas powered cars and SUVs by 2035 was on the table? I cannot agree more with the author’s sentiments. As someone who had the honor to be involved with the development of the Volt propulsion system, and also lead the development of a dual traction inverter for a domestic Chinese series hybrid drive unit manufacturer, I feel strongly that the EREV platform should be revived and committed to long term. It would be especially effective in light-duty trucks since they are often called upon for towing and hauling which complicates the BEV range anxiety problem. My dream: An EREV Silverado.
