The Risks of Going All In On a New Technology Here is a very insightful article about what's happening in the EV world. EVs and many other tech innovations sound great in sound bites and on paper, but it's not until you get into the details of actually embracing and implementing do you find out the real costs, both in time and money. My takeaway: Don't get wowed by shiny new objects or the hype. Do your research and dig into the fundamentals (like any sound investment). If it still looks good, starts some trials and experiments and see what you uncover. Elements such as cadmium (Cd-48), nickel (Ni-28), iron (Fe-26), and lithium (Li-3) are important metals in the fabrication and production of batteries.   Cadmium is used in rechargeable nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries. These batteries have been widely used in portable electronic devices, such as cameras, power tools, and electronic toys. However, their use has decreased in recent years due to environmental concerns, as cadmium is toxic. Nickel is used in various types of batteries, including nickel-cadmium (NiCd), nickel-metal hydride (NiMH), and lithium-ion batteries. Nickel's high energy density makes it valuable for energy storage in batteries. The automobile manufacturing industry relies heavily on iron and steel for vehicle production. Some (MIT) have proven that iron-air batteries are up to the challenge since they operate using only low-cost iron, water, and air. Iron-air batteries are insensitive to overcharging, and partial and deep discharge.  Last but equally important, Lithium the highest metal and the least dense solid element has high electrochemical potential making it a valuable component of high-energy density rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.
