Here's a proud mama moment & a leadership lesson all rolled into one. My son Asher was selected to play basketball at the Maccabi Games in Detroit this summer. He'll be on a team with his peers, playing a sport he loves. The part I'm most excited about has nothing to do with basketball. It's about the magic moments when the kids are experiencing all the highs, lows and in between emotions together. It's in the down time between games when they will bond, learn, share and laugh. They'll get to shrug off their student postures and just be teens. These connections will continue to grow over time. This is the same reason companies need to create community through offsites and facilitator run programs. It's about the magic moments when the teams are experiencing all the highs, lows and in between emotions together. It's in the down time between deadlines and putting out fires that they will bond, learn, share and laugh. Employees need to shrug off their work personas, roles, and hierarchy and just connect as humans. These connections will continue to grow over time. Black Mamas Village - ATX has been hand to plow preparing for the opening of The Village Place . November 4th we will host our first public event, stay tuned for more details. Today I want to share with you our newly minted website. The Village Place is a manifestation of social impact entrepreneurship. What is social impact entrepreneurship? Social impact organizations prioritize doing work that consciously, systemically and sustainably serves or attempts to solve a local or global community need. The Village Place seeks to address multiple social justice issues that impact the health, wealth, and wellbeing of Black Austinites by centering Black mothers and the families that they care for and serve. Economic Empowerment, Social Support, Community, Safety and Belonging…We are creating the ecosystem that is needed for #BlackAustin to thrive. We, Black folks, are communal people, we are a tribe- Displacement due to gentrification and the rising cost of living has exiled us to the edges of Austin and disconnected us from our village. Why are Univeristies the best at implementing robust alumni programs? Most nonprofits maintain donor relationship programs, but so few large industries maintain mutually beneficial relationships with former employees. Not doing so is a massive missed opportunity. IMHO, working for a company is the ultimate sign of buy in. Employees are essentially your best, most devoted followers. Their affinity towards you shouldn’t wane over time. Even if they are no longer employed by you, they can add immense value to you IF you figure out how to convince them you still value them.

The mental map of Monterrey is changing. The innovation district championed by TECNOLÓGICO DE MONTERREY, in collaboration with other R&D hubs, will be strengthening the economic competitiveness of this state, region and city. Wonderfully, and critically, discussions on how to grow local residents into this growth are happening at the very same time. #thisisinnovation. The way the OpenAI saga went down was uncomfortably familiar for many of us. 🔇poor communication 🚷 uninformed stakeholders 💖 a respected, charismatic leader 🙌🏾 mission-driven (naive?) board members 👀 unexpected but not unpredictable public interest Nonprofits, and boards by extension, are both very public and very opaque. They underpin much of our society and yet they're not widely understood or questioned until they hit the front page.
