Juneteenth: More Than a Day Off (#Juneteenth) This Juneteenth, let's celebrate beyond the day off! It's a vibrant time to honor African American emancipation, reflect on our shared history, and commit to a brighter future together. This year, let's use Juneteenth to: Empowering Voices: Amplify African American achievements and stories! This day is about listening, learning, and celebrating the incredible voices that shape our world. Learning & Growing: Let's reflect on the past to build stronger teams. Understanding our history fosters respect for diversity and paves the way for an inclusive future. Celebrating Joy: Juneteenth is a day of optimism and cultural richness! Let's embrace the vibrant tapestry that makes our workplaces and communities thrive.

June is a month filled with celebrations and recognition, but it often feels like the focus on PRIDE overshadows other significant observances, particularly Caribbean Heritage Month. As someone of Caribbean descent, it’s important to acknowledge and celebrate the rich cultures and contributions of people from the Caribbean. For me, It’s frustrating to see the overwhelming support for PRIDE while Caribbean Heritage Month—and the issues of racial inequality and inequity—receives less attention. This is not to say that PRIDE shouldn't be recognized—it absolutely has its place. However, the challenges faced by Black and Brown communities, including those of Caribbean descent, are deeply ingrained and pervasive, requiring much more visibility and support. Being Black or Brown in America involves navigating a landscape of bias and systemic inequality that is often more visible and more complex. As we move through June, let's ensure that we are also amplifying the voices and experiences of people of Caribbean descent and committing to the ongoing fight for racial justice and equity. I am all for each having its rightful shine but not at the expense of another.

As we come together to celebrate Juneteenth, we recognize the significance of this day in commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It is a time to honor the resilience and strength of the African American community and reflect on the strides we have made towards equality and justice. However, while we celebrate this important milestone, we must also acknowledge the enduring legacy of slavery that still affects our society. The abolition of slavery was a monumental step, but the lack of a comprehensive plan for integration and support left many African Americans facing immense challenges. Today, we see the echoes of this historical oversight in ongoing struggles with job opportunities, educational disparities, and systemic racism. At PMI, we commit ourselves to addressing these issues head-on. We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just principles to aspire to, but fundamental values that require active pursuit. It is our responsibility to create an environment where everyone has equal access to opportunities and is empowered to succeed. As we celebrate Juneteenth, let us also reaffirm our dedication to building a more just and equitable society. Let us work together to dismantle the barriers that continue to hold back so many and strive for a future where every individual can thrive. Happy Juneteenth!

Happy Juneteenth, everyone! 🌟 In our upcoming training, we use Juneteenth as an example to discuss cultural competence, responsiveness, and humility. What for I mean? ✅Understanding Juneteenth as a holiday is cultural competence. That is not enough. ✅Recognizing it as a holiday and adjusting policies to offer it as a paid day off is cultural responsiveness. But again that is not enough. ✅Taking it a step further, cultural humility involves self-reflection on how your biases and experiences impact your perception of Juneteenth, learning about its significance, and finding ways to support Black-owned businesses or positively impact Black communities on this day. How are you spending Juneteenth? Are you ok with just being culturally competent or are you ready to do more and incorporate cultural humility.
