I had a dad come to me and tell me that he was taking his son of my program in his exact words were “he has to work on his ground game.” I pointed out that his child was only six, but the dad in his infinite wisdom was adamant that his son had to start grappling immediately. So he took it out of my program enrolled him in the local BJJ class where he lasted only a couple of weeks before quitting again. Legitimate martial arts instructors today have to compete with a variety of hybrid martial arts and combat sports which lack the lessons of morals and discipline and goal setting. Putting on your Gi or Dobak and starting with the disciplined bow everyday no longer has the same appeal to new students as putting on a set of board shorts and immediately throwing an array of sloppy punches and kicks and giving the participant the idea that they will soon be on the UFC stage. And on top of that, they have to compete with inferior schools in martial Arts Systems in which the instructors don’t even have a legitimate black belt, so they sell themselves as family fun centers or “life skills” coaches. Personally, I can’t think of a better life skill than being able to defend yourself from someone who is trying to hurt your kill you. And the benefits of approaching someone respectfully with a firm handshake and a “yes sir” will give you further in life than a couple of quick video clips on social media. Therefore legitimately instructors have to constantly come up with ways of motivating their students as well as performing so that the students can see that the techniques will actually work. Instructors also have to navigate around traditional techniques that are no longer applicable in today’s society. The days of 20 and 30 minute warm-ups followed by a grueling session of reverse punches from a horse stance because “the masters said so” or because “this is how I was taught.” Are long gone. Today’s instructors need to perform a balancing act of demonstrating, motivating and constantly keeping the entire class satisfied. Coming up with games which require performing a variety of techniques, constantly getting the kids are terrified of sparring used to participating with others going through a form of “soft sparring” is going to be very beneficial. #smithtaekwondo #missionbravo #martialarts #BJJ #Karate #Muaythai #Kickboxing #selfdefense

At least once a week I consider quitting martial arts. I’ve been a student since May of this year. Just when I’m about to justify (to myself) that the time spent practicing at home and in class would be better utilized elsewhere, I experience a breakthrough that negates that justification. The experience has learnings that apply not only to furthering my skills in Taekwondo but also to my personal life. Most recently, I had the experience of looking like a fool and forgetting everything I had learned up to that point. This past Wednesday, towards the end of class, the instructor assigned each of us a sparring partner. This may not sound out of the ordinary. However, I had never sparred before. The 8-10 minutes felt like 72. However, in the last two minutes I started assembling individual strikes and blocks into packaged action once I stopped thinking about everything from how foolish I looked to what’s the perfect move to make. Now I look forward to the next opportunity to improve by sensing and responding to the complex adaptive system in front of me - my sparring partner. Key learnings: • We need to become uncomfortable to increase our knowledge threshold • Practice is just that, practice • We need to receive instruction from more than one instructor What have you learned through being uncomfortable? Happy New Year! #SufferLessImproveMore #leadership #humility #problemsolving #management #martialarts #practice #taekwondo #continuousimprovement

“Kids Defence With Erin - Episode 9” – Erin, Black Belt and Popular Children’s Trainer, demonstrates the effectiveness of Northstar Ju Jitsu / Japanese Ju Jitsu. Today, Erin is showing some defences against a shirt grab. Erin firstly demonstrates a simple escape. If that does not work, Erin breaks her attacker’s balance with strikes, then escapes. Erin’s attacker gets more aggressive and throws a haymaker while grabbing the shirt, with Erin defending that as well. Finally, the attacker grabs the shirt and pushes / pulls around, with Erin having solutions to that. It is important for your children to practice against a variety of attacks, as they never know what a bully will do. Depending on the needs of the situation, Erin can attack and escape. These are highly effective moves, designed to stop an attack, while empowering your children with the skills to end the self defence situation quickly. 🥋 It is important for children to keep it simple in a self defence situation, so they can deal with the needs of the situation and get to safety. We do not want your child to be bullied. We also teach the children not to be bullies and to only use their martial arts skills if they must. 😁 As always, our ultimate mission is to help your child on a path of self-improvement in body, mind, and spirit. In each class, we tick off Defence – Discipline – Fitness – Fun, which helps your child progress into fine young adults. Oss! We hope you enjoy and look forward to seeing your family in class. ✌️ Credit: Blue – Disturbed – The Sound of Silence (Cyril Remix) 🎶 quantummartialarts.com.au #buildabetteryou #martialarts #selfdefence #fitness #blackbelt #jujitsu #mma #bjj #wrestling #family #children #chatswood #northsydney #balmain #sydney #taekwondo #kickboxing #judo #brazilianjiujitsu #karate #boxing #muaythai #quantummartialarts #quantum #qma #northstarjujitsu #nsjj Quantum Martial Arts Quantum Martial Arts Darren Higgs

CAN LOSING BE A CONFIDENCE BOOSTING EXPERENCE? With the right mindset the answer is a resounding YES! Have you ever competed in something before? Have you ever Lost? Have you ever given up after losing? Have you ever let your kids give up after losing? If you answered YES to any of these questions then martial arts is the next activity you should be doing. At Dragon Gate we like to set up Confidence Boosting Experiences (events) for our students. These events could be a Test, a Board Breaking Class, our annual Demo at the Long Island Ducks Game, A Karate Tournament, awarding them an awesome grades stripe for their belt when they bring in an awesome grade from school. Letting them hit our GONG when they do something awesome in class. This is just a few of the things we do to build Confidence. But the Karate Tournament is a tricky one. Because no one likes to lose. But losing can still be a confidence boosting experience if you look at it with the right mindset. I can tell you I have lost my fair share of competitions but if you look at it with the attitude of what can I do to improve for next time. Which by the way is a winners attitude. Then take action and train for another competition and know that if you keep putting in the work and train for the next one. That eventually that trophy is coming. But you have to do the work. If you quit after one competition because it didn't go your way. That is losing and that will kill your confidence. GIVING UP KILLS CONFIDENCE!!! Check out this funny video from Cobra Kai after Devon Lee lost. https://lnkd.in/eBG6bt-J If you would like to get yourself or your child involved in our Confidence Boosting Classes Click Here to schedule a FREE CLASS https://lnkd.in/eSyiwVW

I’ve been training in various martial arts for roughly 25 years now. 🥬🥬🥬 I’ve learned a lot of lessons through combat sports. But relative to the fight, the most important one is simple: if you don’t know how to defend against a fully non-compliant opponent, then you don’t really know how to fight. 🥬🥬🥬 You see, many martial arts teach beautiful techniques. But their utility in an actual self-defense scenario is questionable. 🥬🥬🥬 I learned this lesson the hard way early in my martial arts journey when I walked into a proper fight gym after having done traditional karate for years beforehand. Between my robust ego and a skill set comprised of rigid and non-adaptable techniques, it did not end well for me. 🥬🥬🥬 Since then, I’ve sought out studios that focus on live drilling and sparring against non-compliant opponents. 🥬🥬🥬 There’s a lesson here that extends past combat sports and into every other aspect of your health and well-being. The lesson is equally as simple: if your plan to stay fit and healthy only accounts for a fully compliant environment, then get ready to be fat and unwell. 🥬🥬🥬 Your environment is not always going to comply with your plan. So what are your strategies to eat right and stay active when things do not go well? When your kid gets sick, your workload runs you late into the day, when that client wants to eat lunch at the fancy steakhouse, or your friends are all drinking wine and beers all afternoon, and so forth? 🥬🥬🥬 Do you have a plan to adapt and vigorously defend your health and wellness even in the most non-compliant environments? 🥬🥬🥬 If you don’t, I’m here to help. I support busy people just like you every day in building a plan that works for them even when life completely hits the fan. 🥬🥬🥬 Comment below “non-compliant” and I’ll reach out to you directly with details about my coaching. 🥬🥬🥬 Your coach -joey . . . 💪Body Systems 📸Filipe Paiva #fatloss #fitat40 #nutritionfirst #boxing

I thought you were a black belt? It is interesting that I got comments on these posts. People have asked me why I’m wearing a white belt in these vids. Here’s the answer. I’m a black belt in Shito Ryu Karate. I was actually a silver medalist on the East Coast back in the day. However, as a federal law enforcement instructor, I was introduced to many other martial arts and boxing. To be the best, we incorporated boxing, karate, and jujitsu into our training programs. However, I never officially tested in jujitsu from a certified instructor. Therefore, when I go to jujitsu gym, I wear a white belt out of respect. The foundation of martial arts is respect. I’ve had the privilege to train with Martial Arts Hall of Famer, Dwight Decker @1manimaldeck. He is a phenomenal instructor in Ladson, South Carolina. We have a mutual respect for each other’s art. My martial arts training impacts every part of my company, 4Ward Operations. The lessons I have learned about discipline and respect are incorporated throughout our programs. If you want to be a successful leader, start with discipline and respect. That will build the foundation for you to be successful. As an aside, if you live in the Charleston/Summerville/Ladson, South Carolina, area, I highly recommend @black_force_mma. Never send your children somewhere where they will be taught flashy techniques without foundation. Be the leader meant to be! #mmatraining #karate #jujitsulifestyle #boxing #summervillesc #ladsonsc #charlestonsc #discipline #respect #dedication #brothers

Long-Time Martial Artist, World Ju Jitsu Champion, Founder of Quantum Martial Arts. Previously, an Award Winning Financial Adviser. Put simply, I love helping and mentoring everybody to achieve their goals.
Whether it is your business, career, education or favourite hobby, your chances of success will be determined by how well you know your moves / technique / stuff, then how effectively and creatively you can combine those "moves". People want to know that you can do the job for them (effectiveness). After that, people want to know how you can maximise the benefits to them (creativity). So, learn your basics and then start innovating with different combinations of your "moves". You are limited only by your imagination. See you at the top!!! quantummartialarts.com.au Quantum Martial Arts Quantum Martial Arts Darren Higgs
Welcome to ‘MMA With Egor - Episode 2’! Egor, Children’s National Ju Jitsu Champion, shows some simple yet effective MMA and sparring techniques that all children can learn and enjoy. Egor starts with an turning kick, turning kick into axe kick. After Egor has “broken balance” and is now controlling the distance, he can do a throw to finish off. In this video, Egor shows a “Simple Throw” (Major Reap) and a Hip Throw. However, martial arts is an “art”, so the choices of kicks and throws are limited only by your children’s imagination, especially after we have taught them the moves. 🥊 On the children’s martial arts journey, remember that discipline, dedicated practice and having fun are the cornerstones of progress. We teach the children all aspects of martial arts – from kicking and punching to throwing, clinching, and grappling. Once they have mastered the fundamentals, which they love by the way, the world of combinations and ranges opens up, allowing your child to explore and express their unique personal style. If the children can gain confidence and express themselves in martial arts, they can do this with all aspects of their life, including friendship and education. We want your children to be the best they can be. 🥋 In the meantime, nobody was harmed in the making of this video. Therefore, I look forward to seeing all of YOU at our sparring classes in our various dojos. ✌️😁 p.s. you must excuse the background noise. Everyone knows you do not interrupt a “Mr Scott MMA Class”, which the children love. It is not “Mr Scott” saying not to interrupt.
