Resilience ‘policy diffusion’ will be critical for responding to climate change at the communal scale. That is because its impacts are experienced locally and across political boundaries. Forests, mountains, and rivers are a few examples of ecosystems that are often ‘transboundary’ in nature and are also venues for climate exacerbated fires, landslides, and floods, respectively. They are also the spaces within which we live, work, and play. Implementing our policy responses across boundaries—sharing place-based responses with our neighbors—will make our climate change adaptions more successful by ensuring that we are governing our distributed, but interconnected, systems as a whole.
“A community is never done with fire adaptation. Rather than starting at square one, communities can adapt each other’s work across different political, social and geographic contexts,” says Hillary Lundgreen, Washington Fire Adapted Communities Program Director. To better tackle the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss across Western dry forests, The Nature Conservancy employs a holistic approach to improve forest health that includes: ⭐ Working with Tribal Nations across the West. 🌲 Partnering with local communities, the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service. 🔥 Leading Prescribed Fire Training Exchanges (TREX) and conducting forest thinning projects. 📈 Contributing to an extensive body of cutting-edge research in collaboration with leading experts from multiple universities. ⚖️ Developing a set of transformative wildfire resilience policy solutions. We are more than 15 million people of different ages, cultures, social backgrounds, histories, values, and interests. And there are as many different forests as there are forest owners. In a word? We are unique, though we all share something in common: we care for European forests. 🌳 While embracing time and our diversity as a strength, we value an independent and integrated forest management ♾ Active and #sustainable management is essential in safeguarding the future of Europe’s forests. This is why we ask #EU policymakers to: 1 - Enhance collaboration with forests owners 2 - Support us in our work 3 - Acknowledge a ‘one size fits all’ approach cannot work As European Forest Owners, we have much to contribute to the EU’s 2050 ambitions and goals, which we highly support 🎯But our voice and expertise need to be heard and recognised, with more flexibility and room for adaptation to local conditions to make the EU’s objectives work in practice.🌱 Learn more about our achievements, vision & commitments 👉 https://lnkd.in/e2Bf9Xmj #EUForests #SustainableForestManagement

📣 I’m so looking forward to the 24th of May. At 1pm UTC, I will be moderating MORFO's online panel event: 🌍 Effective community engagement strategies to maximise large-scale forest restoration success 🌍 The UN declared 2021-2030 as the ‘UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration,’ urging countries to restore one billion hectares of land. However, at the current rate, only 5 percent of this goal will be achieved. Stakeholders must do better. To learn more about forest restoration successes, I am looking forward to speaking with Katherine Sinacore Bruno Gomes Emira Cherif and Cibele Santana. Our conversation will cover: 🔸 An overview of the latest scientific research on integrating local populations into ecological restoration projects; 🔸 Mistakes made in the past in integrating local populations into these projects, especially regarding funding issues; 🔸 How Morfo, as a technical restoration solution, assists project developers in creating “high quality” projects that are sustainable economically and socially; and 🔸 The role of technology and data in enhancing the efficiency and impact of restoration projects, including community monitoring and feedback mechanisms. #Restoration #NatureBasedSolutions #ForestRestoration
