Great pleasure to participate in an insightful discussion on the Euronews Talk show Brussels, my love?, hosted by Méabh Mc Mahon, alongside esteemed colleagues Silvia Pastorelli and Heather Grabbe. We delved into the EU Commission's ambitious recommendation of a 90% CO2 reduction by 2040. The European Green Deal stands as the key initiative for a sustainable European future. However, reflections on the rushed "Fit for 55" package underscore the need for balanced ambition and pragmatic implementation. With 2030 looming closer, we face formidable challenges in meeting emission reduction and renewable energy targets. Doubling renewables and achieving a 55% reduction in emissions within five years demand unprecedented innovation and investment. But rather than speaking about goals, shouldn't we speak about implementation? Amidst discussions of 2040 goals, we mustn't lose sight of present realities. We grapple with the substantial costs and complexities of transitioning our economies. Financial feasibility studies and clarity on investment gaps are imperative to garner public support and attract private investment. According to the Financial Times, 1,5 Trillion euros a year is needed as an investment. The main part of this money can not come from public sources. We need a clear business case. Moreover, a long-term vision is essential to rally European citizens and investors. We must highlight Europe's potential in clean technologies and foster an environment conducive to economic growth. Ultimately, success hinges on fostering stable economic conditions. 🍃We’re at Innovation Zero today on the Climate Tech Supercluster stand. Yesterday the event kicked off with a talk from Professor Jim Skea, Chair of the IPCC who reminded the audience that 2023 had been the hottest on record, sparking off extreme weather events and continues sea level rises. We have however made progress. Twenty countries reported a reversal in emission upward trend and the trends in solar batteries and wind technologies have been prime examples of climate innovation.” #innovationzero2024 #cleantech #climatetech We’re delighted that our member, ventilating brick company Airex has been nominated for an Innovation Zero Award. Members Ripple Energy and Clean Growth Fund are also exhibiting here. There have been informative panel discussions, innovator showcases and networking opportunities here at the show. The panel discussing new innovations in impact investing spoke about how banks can work together to advance the green transition. Credit cards exist where tree planting takes place every time the card is used and there’s now an energy service which not only recommends the cheapest energy deals but also the most sustainable ones. We also heard that parts of California are now uninsurable due to climate risks and that there is no choice but to invest. The panel on sustainable shipping spoke about key challenges that need overcoming to advance fossil fuel alternatives. These include: -        Credibility that an alternative fuel can reduce emissions -        Safety reassurances -        Lifecycle assessment -        Knowledge of how sustainable fuels can be deployed The panel recommended that the UK move quickly as it is behind other countries. Strong policy is needed so that funds go into the right areas and not into ships that will need decommissioning by 2040. With the green transition cost is perceived as an issue, but if all green initiatives are realised households could actually save £1,000 annually on energy bills. The show has brought together a wealth of insights and collaboration opportunities to help accelerate the green transition.

The world stands at a pivotal point on the journey to #netzero. Investing in ClimateTech solutions is essential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change. A recent report from Allianz Economic Research throws a light on the current investment gaps facing European ClimateTech start-ups, threatening an innovation lag behind the U.S. and China. Strong partnerships between public and private investors are key to reversing this course and improving the competitiveness of Europe’s ClimateTech industry. Policymakers can help to establish a unified EU platform, streamline bureaucracy, and update regulation. Closer collaboration is also needed between investors and universities, to build robust research ecosystems, catalyse innovation and fast-track ClimateTech innovation hubs.   Although our report focuses on Europe, the ClimateTech race is global. The economic opportunity in the net-zero transformation is enormous and progress from around the world continues to impress me, from rapid advances in making renewable energy accessible and affordable to groundbreaking policies that are helping communities adapt to living with climate risks. This is a decisive moment for policymakers, industry players, investors, and scientific institutions. 📢 Today Dr. Carla Woydt, Chief Impact Officer & Co-Founder at CEEZER, shared precious insights at the HV Capital Summit together with Simon Haldrup (Agreena), moderated by Manal Belaouane (HV Capital). Here’s a recap of the key points discussed: 🌍 What was the motivation to enter the climate tech space? - Climate change remains one of the most urgent challenges globally. - Emission reductions are crucial but insufficient to meet targets fast enough. Engaging with the carbon market in parallel is essential to reach global climate goals.  - Yet, there is a significant gap between current corporate emissions and climate targets of approximately 400 MtCO2e for Scope 1 & 2, increasing to 2 GtCO2e by 2030. The gap becomes considerably larger if Scope 3 emissions are considered, too. - Technological solutions like CEEZER enable buyers to effectively engage with the carbon market by providing harmonized data to compare different projects, select and build diverse portfolios to hedge risk and monitor purchased portfolios over time. 🔍 How do you balance environmental impact and financial returns? - Every dollar spent on CEEZER is a direct investment into high-impact climate projects. Both, financial success, and CEEZER‘s mission to drive meaningful climate action are very well aligned.    📈 What are upcoming opportunities in the carbon market? - The carbon market will grow as more corporates approach their net-zero targets. A BCG report published in 2023 predicts an annual demand for carbon dioxide removal (CDR) to be between 40–200 Mt CO2 by 2030, likely outstripping supply. - Buyers are willing to pay a premium for high-quality carbon removal and prefer a portfolio approach to balance costs and reduce individual risk of a project. - Simon Haldrup added that co-benefits beyond carbon will become increasingly important for removal supply  - And finally, an expected convergence of voluntary and compliance markets could drive demand for voluntary carbon credits. With CEEZER’s focus on diverse portfolios, the assessment of quality and risk of every project sold, and a digital infrastructure designed to translate market complexity into accessible insights, CEEZER is well-positioned to capitalize on these emerging opportunities in the carbon market.
