Successfully closed call! The first call for applications within the Nordic Grand Solutions for the Green Transition Programme received 35 proposals. Nordic Energy Research CEO Klaus Skytte notes that the proposals are very varied in thematic focus and scientific approach, with a large number of participants from all Nordic countries and regions. "The Nordic research communities have responded well to the technology-neutral call. It is already clear that the proposals represent what the research teams really want to look at within their field of work, and they have applied themselves to the open nature of the call, to create the best possible pathways forward towards the green energy transition goals for 2030," says Klaus. According to Senior Adviser Lise Nielson, there has been a very strong interest in the call, which is well reflected in the high number of applications. "We are now in the process of doing eligibility checks, and then all the proposals will go to external experts for evaluation," says Lise. Conferences and exhibitions allow engagement and communication with people face to face and without the pressure of a fixed agenda. Free flowing conversations that explore innovation and new ideas are a refreshing change from the schedule of teams meetings that pervade the day to day. What are my takeaways from two days at All-Energy Exhibition and Conference last week and three days this week at UKREiiF? Joined up investment in a future energy system is crucial to unlock development opportunity and connect large generation to changing demands as buildings decarbonise. This new energy system will create new jobs and a transition from jobs in the fossil industry. It will enable new and sustainable economic investment. Future planning of this system will take account of changing energy systems to connect solar, large offshore wind to consumers with data centres, district heating networks and integrating with balancing in battery storage and large thermal energy storage. There is a wall of investment waiting to enable new housing, mixed use and commercial development as well a retrofitting of existing properties. This investment depends on certainty of policy at national and local levels. Local partnerships will enable resource constrained local authorities to work with the private sector to address energy and development projects and to bring the best out of both parties’ expertise and powers to enable long term sustainable outcomes.

"To achieve the net zero goal by 2050, Germany, Italy and France are estimated to account for the highest necessary [grid] investments. Investments in these three countries make up 50% of EU-wide distribution grid investments until 2050." At Cleantech for Italy, innovative grid technologies (IGTs) are at the core of our agenda. Massive investments are necessary to enhance the efficiency and security of our energy systems. This can only be achieved by combining grid expansion with modernisation and optimisation - and that's where IGTs step in. The new report on IGTs by Compass Lexecon and CurrENT Europe, supported by Breakthrough Energy , is a great resource for learning about the topic. I highly recommend reading it if you haven't done so yet (link in the first comment).

🌬️ Exciting developments in the world of renewable energy! Helena Schmidt recently conducted a groundbreaking study on the #SocialImpacts of airborne wind energy in Northern Germany. As airborne wind energy is still a relatively new concept, there's limited understanding of how residents perceive this technology. Gaining insights into their experiences is crucial, allowing the developers to refine the design and implementation of Airborne Wind Energy Systems (AWES), aligning them more effectively with the local community's needs and preferences.🎈 🔍 Discover the unique insights and policy recommendations from residents living near the SkySails test site. 🏠⚡ Check out our findings here: https://lnkd.in/dASfKa7c #RenewableEnergy #AirborneWindEnergy #Sustainability #GreenTech #Innovation
🌍 The social impacts of airborne wind energy 💨 A groundbreaking study led by Helena Schmidt at Delft University of Technology and MSH Medical School Hamburg surveyed residents living in proximity to an airborne wind energy system, comparing their experiences with traditional wind farms. 🏡 👉 Residents reported similar impacts in terms of noise, ecological concerns, and safety for both airborne and traditional wind energy. However, the airborne system earned accolades for its low impact on the landscape, likely due to the absence of perceived shadows and the low visibility. The study emphasizes the need to gauge community sentiments towards emerging energy technologies, crucial for a successful and socially fair energy transition. Schmidt stresses the significance of early consideration of social impacts, urging developers to align technology designs with local needs. This research marks a pivotal step, prompting a holistic approach that unifies technical advancements with community satisfaction 🤝 Roland Schmehl | Gerdien de Vries | Reint Jan Renes | Gundula Huebner | Florian Müller TU Delft Wind Energy Institute Kitepower #AirborneWindEnergy #SustainableFuture #InnovationInsights #CommunitySentiments #GreenTechJourney
