Continuing on with our Architectural Oddities Series, this request came from a lover of SpOoKy sEaSOn. 🦇👻 They wanted an Addams family style build complete with slides, secret passages, but most importantly an elevator because the husband suffered from bathmophobia, better known as a fear of stairs. This is the perfect haunted house request, but as an everyday house what do you think? Could you deal with this spooky build or is it a little too odd? This design stands out for its organic architecture, where the building appears as a natural extension of the landscape. The undulating layers resembling sedimentary rock formations or flowing water give the villa an appearance that is both sculptural and functional. The integration of waterfalls into the building itself not only serves as a visual spectacle but also promotes a sense of tranquility. Large glass facades ensure that the interior spaces are filled with natural light and visually connected to the outdoors. The villa's flowing form, adorned with greenery, minimizes the visual impact on the environment, suggesting a design philosophy that prioritizes sustainability and harmony with nature. The combination of these elements—fluid form, natural materials, integrated water features, and green spaces—makes this design a unique piece of habitable art, emphasizing the idea that human habitation can enhance rather than detract from the beauty of the natural world.

The notion of 'solid' and 'void' exists on several levels in architecture and we continuously explore surface and opening, simultaneously creating a sense of exterior enclosure & interior occupancy. These images are from houses in Southampton NY, Asheville NC, the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica and Westchester County, NY. #modernarchitecture #residentialdesign

The design of this villa is strikingly unique for its bold and sculptural approach to architecture. It features a set of interlocking rings that create an almost kinetic feel, as if the structure itself is in motion. The fluidity of the rings contrasts with the solid, rectangular form at the core, showcasing a harmonious blend of dynamic and stable elements. The design allows for open, transparent living spaces, promoting an indoor-outdoor lifestyle. The reflective surface of the rings suggests a high-tech or futuristic quality, while the water surrounding the villa enhances the sense of tranquility. The openness of the structure also enables natural light to filter through, creating a play of light and shadow that would change throughout the day. Overall, it is a bold statement in contemporary architecture, emphasizing form, fluidity, and interaction with the environment.

This design's uniqueness stems from its sculptural approach to architecture, incorporating organic shapes and flowing lines that mimic natural forms. The centerpiece is a swirling structure that wraps around itself, creating an impression of motion and fluidity. The combination of rough stone textures with sleek glass and metal finishes offers a tactile experience and visual contrast, highlighting the blend of modern and traditional materials. The way the building opens up towards the central courtyard with its reflective pool fosters a sense of openness and integration with the environment. It’s a space that not only stands as a functional dwelling but also as a piece of landscape art, inviting interaction and contemplation. The design is a bold statement in architectural creativity, offering an immersive experience that transcends conventional living spaces.

The exterior of this house was a nondescript brown with a nondescript stone that was not indigenous to the region. There was a mixture of stylistic elements that had no continuity, and there wasn’t an architectural sense to the front entrance. We modified windows, doors and architectural details on the exterior and painted the entire house to create a sense of unity and cohesion.
