The shift to electric trucking is coming to Europe. 🚚⚡️#Race2Zero    In the second quarter of 2023, 2,500 zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles were sold in Europe, a 25% increase compared to the previous quarter. The market share of zero-emission trucks continues to grow at a steady pace (from 0.6% in Q1 to 0.8% in Q2), while the market share of light and medium trucks grew by 2 percentage points to 6%.     Germany and the Netherlands led the way, representing 30% and 14% of the market share of zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles, respectively.    For the first time ever, battery electric city buses overtook the sale of diesel in Q2 2023, reaching a sales share of 35%, compared to the 30% share of diesel-fueled city buses.    🔌 As part of our technology focus this month, we did a stock take of all public #chargers available for trucks in Europe today. The slowdown in local vehicle production is causing significant challenges for South Africa's automotive component manufacturers, with reduced demand affecting both domestic and export markets. However, the global slowdown in electric vehicle demand offers a potential lifeline for platinum-based catalytic converter producers. A report by the PwC consultancy group shows that in the second quarter of 2024, total EV sales in the EU’s five biggest markets grew by 11% from a year earlier, compared with a 2% drop in ICE demand. #daimler Electric Trucks achieved a noteworthy milestone by recording sales of 3,443 Battery Electric Trucks in the calendar year 2023, marking a remarkable 277% increase compared to the previous year. This is just 1% of total Daimler truck sales. This impressive growth is underscored by the availability of 10 distinct Electric Truck models. To meet the ambitious target of 60% Electric truck sales by 2030, Daimler and other OEMs must consistently elevate their eTruck sales by 10% each year. Recognizing this goal, the German Government and the European Union have initiated various support measures for OEMs. Reconsider the cost structure, businesscase, and Product attributes could help Daimler to achieve the desired market share in 2024. Daimler's eCascadia and eM2 trucks cater to the North American market, offering a maximum range of 250 km. The eEconic truck is specifically designed for local municipality daily operations, addressing unique application needs. For heavy-duty trucks, the eActros 600 and eActros models boast an impressive maximum range of 500 km on a single charge. Stellantis NV is set to produce its first flex-hybrid vehicles powered by ethanol and electricity in Brazil by 2024, aiming to dominate the EV market in Latin America’s largest economy. The automaker, ranked fifth globally by sales, has developed three prototypes combining electric and ethanol engines, along with one fully electric model. Antonio Filosa, Stellantis' president in South America, anticipates that by 2030, 60% of the group's sales will come from vehicles using this biofuel-hybrid technology. This move capitalizes on Brazil's extensive automotive market and its unique flexibility with ethanol fuel. Stellantis aims to outpace competitors like Volkswagen, which plans to launch 15 electric and flex-fuel vehicles by 2025.
