This week is World Wellbeing at Work Week, highlighting the importance of creating positive working environments. In recent years, workplaces worldwide have made significant strides in acknowledging the importance of inclusive environments. Amidst this progressive shift, initiatives like World Wellbeing at Work Week have emerged as crucial platforms for advocating mental, emotional, and physical health of employees. While this focus on wellbeing benefits all individuals, it holds particular significance for the LGBT+ community within the workforce. Wellbeing is a state of being comfortable, healthy and happy. It has never before been so important.   Many LGBT+ employees hired too often are not made to feel included or that they can be their authentic selves. Only by changing attitudes can we create an environment where it feels easy to be true to yourself. The stigma around mental health at work remains formidable. How on earth might we see this changing? Whose responsibility is it? This article suggests it’s the workplace’s responsibility to help end the shame–especially as new sources of potential stress are hoisted on a workforce. Many employees are navigating financial worries, disruptive new technology like A.I. (“AI anxiety” is already documented), social policy issues, and ongoing racial, religious, and LGBTQ discrimination in a polarized society-at-large. How a business runs from top down will and can make it a place where employees are psychologically comfortable and thriving. We need progressive leaders to step up. #leadership #mentalhealth

PRIORITISING PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY AT WORK GREATLY INCREASES RETENTION RATES Employers that prioritise psychological safety at work can greatly improve retention rates, especially for women and professionals from marginalised communities, according to new research from Boston Consulting Group (BCG). The report found that when leaders successfully create psychological safety at work, retention increases by more than four times for women and for employees who identify as Black, Indigenous, or people of colour; by five times for people with disabilities; and by six times for LGBTQ+ employees. Many organizations will vaguely attest to their inclusive practices, but when it comes to tangible changes that support the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ employees, many initiatives are met with resistance. Leaders who are really committed to inclusion need to look at many of these basic initiatives as a necessity, otherwise they may lose out on talent encouraged to go elsewhere. #HR #Wellness #Burnout
