Have you ever been told that having a "base tan" will protect you from getting sunburned? ... Unfortunately, that's not necessarily the case! ❌ According to the UAMS Dermatology Department, the skin darkening someone receives from a tanning bed only offers a SPF of 1-4, which isn't nearly enough to protect from harmful UVA or UVB rays. Not only that, but tanning beds expose you to UVA radiation. And any sort of tanning will damage the skin and increase your risk of skin cancer – especially if it's frequent or prolonged. (Young adults who regularly use indoor tanning beds have a 70% higher risk of certain skin cancers.) To protect yourself and lower your risk, make sure to wear sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher before going outside! And make sure to reapply every 2 hours. #wearsunscreen #skincancer #skincancers #melanoma #clinicaltrials #clinicaltrial #newtreatments #asco #cancercare #cancertreatment #oncologist #researchfinding #cancerresearch
