Breaking barriers and driving change – that's what the Reuters's Women in Automotive Breakfast was all about! The discussion between Isotta Cerri at Toyota Motor Corporation, Maria Uvarova of Stellantis, and Thomas Rudner an EU Parliament Member was detailed, specific and often backed by facts. Love it when this happens! Our discussion focused on how to foster greater gender equality and support women's careers in automotive. Everyone emphasized the importance of tracking diversity metrics to help companies ensure greater representation and inclusivity within their teams. If you don't have data you can't know if what you're trying to implement is creating change. Don't force women to go back to the office full-time. As much as we would like to believe that the division of labour at home is equal, it's not. Women hold a higher amount of unpaid work at home.  Having robust work-from-home allows women to move into higher roles by offering them more flexibility. Everyone agreed that #WFH means more hours and not less because the line between work and home is blurred. This led to a discussion about the transformative role of software like Digital Twin. This enabled more high-level hybrid and remote roles, opening up new opportunities for women in the automotive sector. The persistent gender pay gap, is one of the toughest topics to address. The need for transparency and equitable pay practices to ensure women are fairly compensated for their contributions. Lastly, we shared insights on how women can keep their careers on track while raising children, emphasizing the need for supportive workplace cultures and policies that recognize and accommodate the realities of working parents. Statistics also show that fathers don't take their parental leave. Companies need to foster an environment where men feel that they can be more active at home as well. Thanks so much Stephanie May for introducing me to the Reuters Events: Automotive team Noah Dixon & Nabil Awan I had a lot of fun! #REAtuoEU #WomenInAutomotive #GenderEquality #Empowerment
