We were thrilled to be on hand and watch one of our clients, Bliss+Lex, become Manhattan’s first black-woman-owned cannabis dispensary and Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary (CAURD) licensee. As our Aleece Burgio shares, their barriers to entry have been high -- but they never stopped working toward their goal. In many ways, their journey is an example of how NY state has gotten this program right. https://lnkd.in/e2xeiq2x #cannabislaw #decriminalization #nycannabis

🚨 CALL TO #POPULIST ACTION! 🚨 Are you in #Connecticut? Do you want to be part of history? Record yourself on video walking into any regulated #cannabis dispensary before January 1st, 2024. Make sure the recording includes a complete point of sale transaction of you buying a high-THC hemp product (say a drink or a pill for example), and that the product label shows that it was manufactured outside of Connecticut. Make sure that there's something in the video that proves you did this during 2023. Bonus points if, after the sale is complete, you ask the cashier why the transaction that just took place is recorded in a separate point of sale system, with separate record keeping apart from BioTrack. Extra bonus points if the producer of the product you purchase has a name comprised of a four-digit number. Godspeed, friends.

Co-Founder and CEO of Crystal Nugs, the first Black woman owned cannabis delivery and storefront dispensary in Sacramento CA Social Equity✔️ Locally owned and operated ✔️
Thank you @Sacramentocityexpress for highlighting Crystal Nugs! The new store on J Street in midtown Sacramento is light and airy, with gleaming glass counters, illuminated display cases and immaculate wooden floors. Welcome to Crystal Nugs, the fourth storefront dispensary to open from a member of the City’s Cannabis Opportunity Reinvestment and Equity (CORE) program. Crystal Nugs joins The Pocket Dispensary, Off the Charts and Embarc as storefront dispensaries that have opened with the support of the City’s cannabis equity program. Also offering delivery services, Crystal Nugs, which celebrated its store’s ribbon cutting in November, holds the distinction of being the first Black woman-owned storefront dispensary in Sacramento. “It’s an incredible honor to break barriers and pave the way for diversity and representation in the industry,” said Crystal Nugs CEO and co-founder Maisha Bahati. “Knowing that Crystal Nugs is setting a precedent and creating opportunities for others feels truly empowering.” Bahati said the CORE program, which works to remove barriers of entry into the cannabis industry for individuals and communities disproportionately impacted by the War on Drugs, played a critical role in helping her to realize her dream. “If not for the CORE program, I wouldn’t have received the opportunity to open a storefront dispensary,” she said. “CORE provided me with close to $200,000 in both grants and loans. That helped substantially with the financial costs incurred for our construction build-out phase of Crystal Nugs.” The Sacramento City Council in 2020 approved 10 new storefront dispensary permits, increasing the number of storefront permits allowed in the city from 30 to 40. As directed by Council, applicants for the 10 new permits had to be participants in CORE program. Those selected to be eligible for the permits also had to participate in a competitive Request for Proposals process. In addition to the four storefront dispensaries that have opened, another six are working toward obtaining their business operating permits, according to the City’s Office of Cannabis Management. In Minnesota there are a number of cities that are looking to operate cannabis stores once it becomes legal in Minnesota next year. Not an unexpected decision since many cities in MN operate municipal liquor stores and looking for ways to increase revenue to fund/operate city projects. Will be interesting to see impact on real estate demand from cannabis business but have seen recently groups putting in cannabis as an exclusion in allowed uses within a retail project. The state in typical government fashion has had trouble getting defined rules, policies, etc setup even though there 24 other states selling cannabis where you take the rules and policies that work to speed things up. Will be a political hot button in cities as it roles out and interesting to watch impact on real estate market. #cannabis #realestate #landforsale

So you’ve got your adult-use cannabis retail dispensary license in New York, but have you opened your dispensary and started operating? CannDelta’s client, Blue Forest Farms, is the ONLY non-provisional standard adult-use retail dispensary that has opened in New York. It’s clear that license holders are struggling to operationalize. Unfortunately, the OCM hasn’t provided overly clear steps that break down what needs to be done to go from licensed to operational — so we created a guide! Our new video & blog detail the entire post-licensing process, revealing the OCM’s requirements for pre-inspection and onwards. https://hubs.la/Q02wz9fj0 Reach out to CannDelta for post-licensing support! #NewYork #Cannabis #CannabisIndustry #CannabisBusiness #NYC

Senior Vice President at Marino.; Cannabis, Higher Education and Labor Strategic Communications Specialist
ICYMI: Dope piece in NY Cannabis Insider featuring Marino. client #VERDI #Cannabis with one their periodic "check-in" pieces: "How are things going at #Chelsea #dispensary Verdi?" If you haven't had the opportunity to check out Verdi, highly recommend you head over there today! #cannabispr Here's an excerpt of the Q&A: "Can you describe your business experience outside of cannabis? My family has operated liquor stores in Manhattan for over 60 years. How does that experience translate to running a cannabis dispensary? In some ways, it translates very well. We are used to operating in a licensed industry. In other ways, they’re totally different. For example, liquor takes up much more space for storage and accrues value over time, whereas cannabis has a small footprint but has an expiration date. This difference affects everything from demand for delivery, average order size, and how much inventory we can buy at a time. How much of a problem do illicit cannabis shops present to your business A big problem. The illicit shops make advertising much more costly because we are competing for the same eyeballs. What state cannabis policies/regulations do you think present the most challenges to your business? The fact that enforcement for unlicensed stores comes from the state/Albany, rather than the local precincts makes enforcement an unwinnable game of whack-a-mole. If this were the liquor industry, these unlicensed stores would be shut down within a week, let alone after months." #cannabiscommunity #MarinoCannabis Ellis Soodak
