If you are currently in the pre-design or design phase for an indoor vertical multi-tier cannabis cultivation facility, then tomorrow’s Cannabis Business Times webinar is for you. My colleague Anders Peterson of Pipp Horticulture and Pipp Horticulture International and I often “joke" about the difference between facility designs influenced by CFOs and investors and those influenced by growers. CFOs and Investors often lean towards maximization of the total canopy, whereas experienced commercial Growers often lean towards optimized canopies. The difference between the two can determine success, struggle, and even failure. Maximizing space to the point where there is too much canopy in a given room can restrict airflow, increase microbial risk, reduce yield, and increase labor if not extremely well planned. What if I told you that you could spend less CapEx on equipment and have slightly less canopy by optimizing your flower rooms and actually have a greater yield, higher quality, decreased microbial risk, and lower labor than a room that has more canopy? At Pipp Horticulture, we don’t want to sell you more equipment than you actually need. We want to see you succeed with your Phase 1 operations and mitigate risk and common pitfalls associated with CFO and investor-guided designs so you can proceed to your Phase 2 and Phase 3 build-outs. Remember, what looks good on paper does not always translate to what is optimal for operations. If any of the above resonates with you, I look forward to having you join our free webinar tomorrow. Vertical cultivation can help growers increase efficiency, lower production costs and expand without requiring a building renovation. In the competitive cannabis market, producing high-quality plants economically is essential to success. But there are unique operational considerations in multi-tier grows compared to single-level cultivation. Next week, Pipp Horticulture's cultivation experts, Michael Williamson and Anders Peterson, will be diving into best practices for operating an indoor vertical cannabis farm and answering your questions about how to thrive in this growing environment. If you propagate more plants than you need and vegetate only the best tissue cultures, clones, or seedlings, you will be able to select the very best vegetating plants to transfer to flowering. This tip sounds obvious, but the many growers I have heard from who employ this practice unanimously agree that it’s better to have more choices than fewer. While this requires more space and costs more to cultivate plants that you may not use in the end, the additional labor, time, and expenses are worth growing the best possible plants. Thoughts?
