In 2017, I reached a pivotal milestone in my career, IA Path helped someone get work as a new aduster for the first time. But the path there wasn't paved with magic. It was the result of realizing three key concepts about our industry: (1) 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. IA Path revolutionized how new adjusters entered the field. By actually preparing, training, certifying, and mentoring new adjusters we could get the experience requirements waived with our certifications. They could start immediately. - We realized training wasn’t enough. - So we created a comprehensive certification program. - Negotiated with firms to recognize our certifications. - Provided ongoing support to ensure their success. This approach opened doors for hundreds to start their careers with ZERO experience. (2) 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀. I realized the importance of know, like, and trust in this industry, IA Path became the bridge for new adjusters. - We shared customer success stories with IA Firms to inspire trust. - Hosted networking events to connect adjusters with industry leaders. - Offered personalized mentorship to build new adjusters confidence. These efforts demystified the pathway to becoming a successful adjuster and lent any trust IA Firms had in us to our graduates. (3) 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. We embraced the importance of never stopping the learning process. - We continually updated our training modules. - Facilitated access to industry updates, trends, guides, and tools. - Encouraged mentorship among adjusters to share knowledge with each other. This ensured that our adjusters stayed ahead in their field and in the process we built a community for new IA’s that is second to none. Which of these strategies gets you excited? When was the last time you mentored a junior colleague? Recently, I spoke with an insurance agent who mentioned a promising young employee stuck in an entry-level support role. Unfortunately, their development wasn’t being prioritized. This resonated with me, as in my first insurance job out of college, I had similar responsibilities. Those around me took the time to mentor me, encouraging my growth within the organization. I wouldn’t be the professional I am today without those early mentors championing my success and sacrificing their time to help me develop. I encouraged this agent to bring their coworkers together to support this employee’s development, and they accepted the call to action. 🙋♀️ When I first started my practice, I was NO different than you. I was ambitious, excited, & optimistic UNTIL I hit my first roadblock in the credentialing process. 😖 The first insurance company I applied to, United, rudely informed me they were closed to new providers. I had finally mustered up the confidence to attack this insurance thang & right out of the gates I was ALREADY shot down. 🤨 THAT is some bullshit if you ask me. No? So I sat there for a short while, played the role of the victim & had myself a little pity party. 😅 Then I searched in my closet for my RD crown (it was buried under about 1 million pairs of cute heels. BUt I found it!), dusted that shit off, put it on & moved on to the next insurance company on my list. I had not come this far, to only come this far. 😵💫 Speaking of shit, I want you to think about ALL the things you needed to do to become an RD. Not that I want to give you PTSD. 😎 But think about just how hard you worked to earn your credentials. Biochem PLUS lab. Check. 🧬 Two semesters of A & P. Boring ass Food Service Management. 🩺 12-month long soul-sucking internship. A ridiculous exam you pay for with $$$$ you don’t have because you were working for free for the last 12 months. 🥹 So I am here today to remind you WHO you are & just how far YOU have come. As an RD you are an awesome critical thinker, highly disciplined, and mentally strong AF. 😁 You see, you already have EVERYTHING you need to be successful in an insurance-based private practice. STOP doubting yourself. 🤣 Is it going to be easy? Nope. 😌 Worthwhile? 1000000 percent. So let’s do the thing. Speaker Tip: Consider the difference between a "knower" and a "learner." This week, I conducted an in-person 2-day Presentation Skills workshop for one of the world's largest and most respected insurance brokerages. At The Speech Improvement Company, we often travel to our clients, and we acknowledge how challenging it is to be away from email for two full days. However, the team I worked with fully committed to investing in themselves and their professional development. Brene Brown explains a learning culture in this way: we must understand the difference between the "knower" (who is concerned with always BEING right) and the "learner" (who is working towards GETTING things right). The LEARNER requires vulnerability to grow and learn something new in front of colleagues. This Insurance team was fully committed to learning new skills, and willing to be imperfect together. But that's not all—each group will select one member to step into the shoes of an insurance agent, engaging in a role-play exercise with their coach to gather all the necessary info to process the change. 📝 Meanwhile, fellow associates will tune in, providing support and learning through observation. Isn't it a waste for universities students to work in insurance industry? Since I joined this industry, this question has been asked too many times, so 800 times is the number to express the degree! 🤣😆 I used to have no good impression of the sales industry, because I was harassed by a salesperson day and night. That salesperson was "accidentally" meet me at my workplace almost every day, and also called me repeatedly, which made me feel that the sales industry is a very scary industry! But as the saying goes: What you don't like will find you😂 I found a quite good job after graduation, a classic 9-to-5 job After working for 1 year, I seriously thought about whether this unchanging life is what I want? Every day, I deal with countless files, countless meetings, countless overtime, and sometimes even my boss may reject my application for vacation😰 So I decided to resign! Change track🌟 I accidentally join into insurance industry. At the beginning, I was very resistant because I didn’t know where to start, but I was particularly attracted to it. Luckily, my company team and leaders led me to slowly understand the benefits of insurance and helped me to make continuous progress🙌🏻 I deeply understand the significance and value of this industry. I am still deeply grateful for the decision I made at the time, because I have grown, become better, and am happily moving towards the future I want in this industry🫶🏻 To the choices each of us is facing: No matter what we do, we will never be able to wait for the day when everything is ready, so don’t think about anything, just make up your mind and move forward, because if you don’t take the first step, you can’t see the scenery later🥰 So going to uni student to do insurance?
