They shape the economic landscape of many urban areas, boosting economic productivity by generating jobs and business opportunities that directly influence employment, wages, and business income. It’s estimated that public transportation systems in America currently transport around 34 million passengers every weekday, totaling over 10 billion trips being taken throughout the nation, annually. Let's have an in-depth view of the impact public transit has on the workforce and local economies in the U.S. 👉 https://buff.ly/3X7AYmF #publictransit #workforce #localeconomy #APTA

Quite the value proposition! This is why transit is so important for our economy and quality of life.
Without transit, our region would lose more than $9 BILLION worth of economic activity due to heavy traffic congestion, lack of access to jobs, & slower movement of goods. New research shows how investing in transit helps our communities thrive: https://lnkd.in/eASkTmC8 #wmata

A world-class transit system bolsters inclusive economic growth, ensures access to opportunity and attracts top talent to the region. That’s why it’s so important that we recognize the action taken by Maryland Gov. Wes Moore’s administration and the Maryland General Assembly this session to make smart, fiscally responsible investments in our region’s transit. Strong steps in the right direction but our work is far from over. We stand ready with GBC and the entire Baltimore’s Transit Future coalition — to include more than 70 businesses and anchor institutions — to continue elevating the priority transit receives. Investing in transit is investing in America's workforce. From bus drivers ensuring mobility for all to the dedicated men and women who design, build, and support transit buses, programs like the "Stronger Communities Through Better Transit Act" support countless American jobs across various market sectors. The legislation, proposed by Congressman Hank Johnson and backed by over 100 co-sponsors, would create over 230,000 American jobs across transit operations and industries supporting transit service and expansion, such as bus manufacturing, by investing $20 billion annually over four years through equitable formulary grants. At GILLIG, we're proud to build buses that not only connect communities but create opportunities. By championing workforce development and formula grant funding, we're not just enhancing transit; we're fueling job creation across the nation. We celebrate the dedicated men and women who help drive our country forward. Every bus driver, mechanic, support staff member, and assembly worker on manufacturing lines like ours plays a crucial role in ensuring a more mobile, sustainable future for our country. Investing in transit is investing in America's workforce. Transit connects communities and creates opportunities. As we celebrate Transit Workers Appreciation Day this week, we also celebrate legislation like the "Stronger Communities through Better Transit Act" that will support transit workforce development, bus transit expansion, and a more accessible, greener tomorrow for all. As Benjamin Grunat, GILLIG's VP, Product Planning & Strategy, shares: "By championing workforce development and formula grant funding, we're not just enhancing transit; we're fueling job creation across the nation." #GILLIG #Americanbuilt #transitworkforce #workforcedevelopment #sustainabletransit #Americantransit #transitworkersappreciationday #transitemployeeappreciationday2024 #busdriverappreciation #thankadriver #builtforAmerica

The RTA has developed a legislative agenda focused on securing funds to address the immediate budget gap while also reforming transit funding policy to support sustainable operations. In 2024 the RTA will advocate to: 🔸 Fully fund the region’s transit system. 🔸 Develop a funding structure that is less reliant on rider fares and more focused on equity and access. 🔸 Pursue governance reforms that improve rider experience and regional mobility. 🔸 Pursue reforms to how the State plans, evaluates, and prioritizes transportation projects to reduce emissions and advance racial equity.
