Molson Coors Beverage Company’s Post

Molson Coors remembers Richard Salzman, owner of Peerless Beverage Company in Union, N.J. Richard died June 6 at age 89, having led Peerless Beverage since 1956. Last year, Molson Coors honored Richard’s long career, success and commitment, naming him a Molson Coors Legend. Thanks to his vision while leading Peerless Beverage, it grew from six trucks to a 9-million-case operation, boasting a fleet of 70-plus trucks and 300 employees. Throughout his years at the helm of Peerless, Richard was a force and an icon in the industry with his sense of humor, charm, candor and signature bowtie. He was an active industry leader, serving on numerous boards, including being a founding member of the Coors National Business Council. Our thoughts are with the Salzman family.

I had the pleasure of calling on Peerless for over 30 years. Every time I would go to their office and spoke to Richard and Norm, I knew I was at a truly professional organization. Chuck, I am so very sorry for your loss, but I look back and feel honored to have spent time with your dad over the years. Thanks, Richard, for showing me what it takes to be a professional supplier.

Having called on Peerless for 3+ years, I can tell you Mr S was one of the greats. Turned an almost out of business Schlitz distributor, as he used to say, into what Peerless is today. One of the smartest beer guys I’ve ever known and always had great insights on driving the business. Sad day and my thoughts are with the whole Salzman family and Peerless crew!

My condolences to Chuck and the Salzman family. To Scott, and the Beim family, and all at Peerless. Richard was one of the kindest, smartest, caring people I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with. I truly believe he cared more for the people at the bottom than those at the top. A true legend in the business but an even better person in life. Gods speed sir. Thank you.

Mr. Salzman will surely be missed. He often said “ Beware the Arrogance of Success.” This motto will be repeated by me as long as I can, in his honor. I also love wearing the bow tie he gave me years ago 🙏🏿.

What a great guy and team there. Mr Salzman was one of the first distributors I met and worked with when I first joined Coors back in 2001. Taught me, sharpened me and encouraged me every time we met. I had the pleasure of witnessing this moment and all I could do was smile in gratitude.

Rich had a huge impact on me when I was a wet behind the ears beer guy. Patient. Thoughtful. Funny. A rare combination. RIP.

What great guy, Rich represented 2 brands that I managed . He and his partner Norm Beim grew every brand thru hard work and became one of the most successful wholesalers in NJ and the USA.
