Companies offering childcare stipends leave this group to fend for themselves. Shouldering the cost, mental stress, and job productivity. The tax break for extracurriculars is only ~$5k PER YEAR with average afterschool cost reaching $800-$1k PER MONTH. The conversation needs to be about #caregiving. Babies, toddlers, school age and elderly. This is a #carecrisis impacting us all and our economy. Let's make sure our candidates share their plans to address. The battle has been long and dates back to World War II and the Lanham Act when we had the only nationally funded childcare program in history. That was when they needed women in the workforce. Women have the right to full social participation and that only comes with quality accessible childcare. Accessible childcare will undoubtedly have a positive impact on relieving stress for families and the birth rates. There has been a steady decline as women now look at child care when family planning. Investment in America means investing in women and families and children. The benefits are far reaching.

Talking Mats is a tool for enabling people to reflect and express their views on a topic. Our team uses it with people of all ages for a myriad of purposes so people can give their views and have those views heard by others. We have three Talking Mats Accredited trainers at Talking Trouble (I’m one) and we deliver the in-person and online foundation courses in partnership with TalkLink Trust. We’ve had psychologists, lawyers, teachers, whānau, youth workers, speech-language therapists, doctors, social workers and many others complete this training in recent years, and use it with children, youth and adults in very different contexts. If you are interested, we have courses coming up and can run one wherever there are at least 8 people wanting to do it - just let us know if you want to do the training and we’ll organise it. The next one is 22 March in Auckland.
