We’ve never been more certain about the power of moms. 💪 Why? Because throughout history, mothers have been at the forefront of every major movement. And, as we saw with our petition to CNN, we are once again taking the lead, and fighting to fix the broken child care system for ourselves, our children, and families across the country. Tonight, as the candidates step onto the debate stage, moms will be listening. Kamala Harris’s running mate Governor Tim Walz signed an executive order protecting the “rights of trans children” to receive gender-affirming care. He called protecting children's rights to permanently damage their genitals “empathy.” “You do not need your elected officials to give sermons, but you darn sure should expect them try and live one. And in Minnesota, we're gonna try and live that decency that kindness that inclusion. So as pens were raised in sign and brought fear... and hatred...and nothing positive. We're gonna put pen to paper today that say, this state will protect you.” The order will direct state agencies to ensure people seeking gender-affirming care in Minnesota will not face legal repercussions. That includes out-of-state people seeking care - state agencies will not be allowed to cooperate with other states where gender-affirming care is criminalized. The order also directs state agencies to refuse approval of health plans that do not cover gender-affirming care and to investigate any complaints about denial of gender-affirming care.

Data reveals concerning trends in the privatised residential care sector, where costs are soaring while quality often lags behind. Shockingly, the average annual cost of a private residential placement is £281,000, with significant profit margins for operators. Meanwhile, the number of children placed with foster families is declining, exacerbating the crisis. The impact on #YoungPeople is profound, with many experiencing disruptions to their #Education, #MentalHealth challenges, and increased vulnerability to homelessness and exploitation. It's clear that urgent action is needed to address these systemic issues and ensure the wellbeing of vulnerable children. At The For Baby's Sake Trust, we advocate for investment in not-for-profit local provision and early intervention strategies to support families and prevent children from entering #Care unnecessarily.
