Creating a monday.com structure can truly transform your team's day-to-day life. However, the change is not always easy. Currently, I am working with a fantastic team that is adapting to a new Monday.com structure I created. I can observe the significant difference that an aligned project management process with the right system can make in the team's perception of the work that needs to be done. We began at a point where they were overwhelmed and ready to discard the entire system, and I understand why. When your style of project management does not align with the internal system, it can make the work much more painful than necessary. We started with our usual deep dive discovery phase. Through shadowing sessions, surveys, and process reviews, we understood the pain points and core issues that were preventing the teams from collaborating in the best way. As we designed the new structure and implemented the system, it initially felt overwhelming - a natural part of the process. It may appear more daunting than it truly is, but during our check-in sessions, we've steadily made small improvements. Now, the teams are once again excited about Monday.com, fully realising its potential. A crucial point to remember is that operational issues can make you feel helpless, and change can be intimidating. Do you use time blocking? A popular productivity approach is to block out time in your calendar for a specific task (or batches of similar tasks) and use that time block to hold yourself accountable for getting the work done. I love the concept because: ⏲️ By blocking out X number of hours to complete a task, no-one schedules meetings at that time, and you get uninterrupted focus time to get something done. 🗓️ It's a good way to defer something to later so you're not stressing about it, combatting "out of sight out of mind". Scheduling it in means you know you'll make sure it happens. ✍️ The approach discourages multi tasking, and instead helps you to focus on a priority task without rushing or context switching, giving it the attention it deserves. I say I love the concept because... in reality it doesn't work for me! When I've tried it in the past, more often than not I've already found time to get the task done before the time block rolls around. So those two hours just become a scheduled Netflix break. Oh wait, maybe it totally works for me after all! 😂
