Leverage platforms like Slack channels and mentorship programs to strengthen connections. ➡️ Acknowledge military holidays. For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty' ... These are the citations read before awarding an individual the medal of honor (MOH), the highest military decoration to Americans that have distinguished themselves. The catch phrase for me is 'above and beyond. That's peak performance. Now which one of your staff or colleagues can you strongly recommend to be given that star prize? As a staff, can you state categorically that you are going 'above and beyond'? Some key points to ponder for an employer would be: How do you; - Reward staff that are hitting those heights? - Retain your star performers? - Engage and motivate those that are not hitting those targets? The take away would be for us to continually strive to be the best that we can be putting in our hearts and minds to all that we do, professionally and personally. Star performers could also come from all cadres of the organisation, top - bottom and vice versa.

As a Marine Corps Veteran who is disabled with a 60% rating, there are times when it can be a challenge to keep it all straight and focused. In the IT world, it’s constantly puzzle solving and concentrating on various projects and tasks concurrently. One of the things I most enjoy is coming up with solutions efficiently for our end users. I absolutely love knowing that even the simplest issues being resolved can really make someone’s day better. It provides this sense of not only accomplishment but true purpose as well. It’s a validation that I’m on the right track. Each solved issue that our team is able to tackle builds morale and confidence. It’s these times that allow me to, at least for a bit, forget about the issues I may be battling daily. They give me a true desire to do more and be even better. Always challenging myself and even those around me to reach for more. I’m not perfect nor am I the best employee ever but I strive to be as much as I can. It’s just harder some days. With all that being said, I’d love to know what you consider wins each day. It can be busines but maybe even in your personal life? What is it that you turn to for motivation and how do you maintain that as the week goes on? Do you have a leadership team who has really helped you grow not only as a employee but as person?

It was no coincidence that Ayrissa Schmidt, Anna Vargas, and Sam Bascom presided over my going away festivities when I relinquished command of USS PINCKNEY (DDG 91) in December 2020. These three outstanding young leaders “fleeted up” onboard the ship, meaning they completed both their junior officer tours on the same ship. Everyone onboard benefited from their energy, professionalism, and devotion to mission – especially me, the Captain!  Talent Management comes in many forms – in this case it was “hiring” from within. Organizations are strengthened when there is an internal path for growth and retention. At the same time, it’s important that healthy, achievable paths exist for “outsiders” to join the team and provide diversity in thought and perspective. In other words, I think we need to have our cake and eat it too! I had the privilege of supporting the lady who went on to become first female Thunderbird pilot in the United States when I was 21 years old. Today, she has become a keynote speaker, showcasing the power of dreams and determination. One of the most rewarding moments in my life was helping someone achieve their dream of becoming a pilot. That individual went on to retire after flying Air Force One and Air Force Two. It's moments like these that remind me of what truly matters - seeing people happy. It's essential to recognize that different people are motivated by different things, and it's not always about money. To build a self-generating organization, it's crucial to understand what motivates individuals and create an environment that aligns with those motivations. #Motivation #Leadership #Success

My energy levels and drive to push the limits vary each day. What about you?This past week was challenging, with negative emotions overshadowing my passion and joy. However, Friday brought a fresh wave of excitement and a renewed willingness to step out of my comfort zone and achieve more. I had the opportunity to create my own quote that reshapes my daily perspective on satisfaction and personal growth: "It's OK not to have all the answers and to seek help while embracing our imperfections." Yesterday was a day of #growth and #connection as I reached out to our esteemed team members, engaging with their tasks and progress. The #collaborative spirit and shared #solutions within our world-class team left me feeling #privileged to be a part of this team. One of my dreams is to enhance the community by offering valuable resources to empower leaders and talented individuals, creating a positive impact with a focus on seniors supporting the professional growth of new members. The enthusiastic endorsement from a senior member for the recent successful projects achieved by our new team members was truly heartening. Growing up with the “old school” mentality in the Air Force I always rolled my eyes at uniform changes that I felt were driven by “morale”. Morale friday shirts, unit baseball caps and now duty identifier badges to just name a few. I was molded by the old timers that said morale shouldnt be based on what you wear or from a patch on your uniform. But since I commissioned my perspective has undergone a complete 180-degree transformation. Unit and or duty identifier badges give folks an identity and pride in their job and unit. Working in Financial Management, morale is always a key concern in retaining my best and brightest airman. It’s no secret that FM is not the most popular career field on social media. By showcasing these patches during their day-to-day duties, they also experience a profound sense of camaraderie and esprit de corps. With recruiting challenges we’re facing today, it is increasingly crucial for leaders to identify opportunities to enhance morale and a patch or morale shirt is an easy enhancement So I finally joined the club today to show my own pride. 😎
