One of my favorite parts of this job is seeing employees discover their passion for HR. Whether it’s early in their career or later, it’s so rewarding to see employees' step into roles and make them their own. For this month’s HR Talent Spotlight Series, I’m highlighting an exceptional employee who has done just that – Ericka!  🌟 Talent Spotlight: Meet Ericka!  Ericka has worked at Lockheed Martin for more than 20 years. She first worked as a project manager and affordability lead for the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program before moving into an HR role in 2019. Since joining our team, Ericka has led numerous Global Diversity and Inclusion (GD&I) initiatives, helping to foster a positive, supportive work environment across the company.  🚀 Key Highlights:  A two-time Evening of Excellence Award winner and a 2023 Black Excellence Council Humanity and Service Champion Award recipient, Ericka currently serves as the first Talent Acquisition (TA) Diversity manager for RMS. She was also the first non-HR employee to be hired for a TA line of business lead role in 2019. Talk about impressive!     In her day-to-day role, Ericka is responsible for creating and executing talent attraction strategies for diverse pipelines, increasing diversity partnerships, expanding outreach and initiating diversity programs. She also leads a team that plans RMS diversity events throughout the year, like our Diverse Perspective Series – a series of recruitment events highlighting our Lockheed Martin culture, mission, values and more to experienced professionals.  🌐 Passion Unleashed:  Ericka’s passion for HR comes from her love for GD&I. She’s motivated by a desire to bring people of different backgrounds, experiences and interests together to create an environment where people can learn from one another. She also loves having the opportunity to positively influence the careers of others. Whether its experienced professionals or students, Ericka has a knack for helping people find their perfect role at Lockheed Martin and navigate the recruitment process with ease and encouragement.  🌈 Beyond Work:  When Ericka isn’t working, she is the ultimate thrill-seeker. She loves skydiving, ziplining, white water rafting and anything else that gets her adrenaline pumping. Today, we honor Juneteenth, or "Freedom Day." It reminds us of our ancestors' strength, bravery and relentless spirit. This day commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. This day in history freed more than 250,000 people who were still enslaved almost three years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. It symbolizes the continued journey toward equality for all. As a Black woman, I am profoundly aware of today's importance. It's a time to reflect on our history, honor those who fought for freedom, and recognize the strides we've made. Today, it is essential to understand its importance and history in our country. It's also a call to action—a reminder that we can still strive for equality and justice for all. I am proud to honor the stories of those who paved the way for us. I am also determined to continue their legacy by advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion for everyone. Happy LGBTQIA+ Pride Month! Pride month gives members of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies a chance to celebrate, honor and cherish their stories. Sharing the community’s stories allows us to have a more inclusive, equitable workplace. Meet Nathan, an associate manager of Finance and Business Operations at Derco, a Lockheed Martin company. Nathan has been in the aerospace and defense industry in Finance since 2017. Throughout his career, he has supported platforms ranging from the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, the MQ-9 Predator and the C-130 Hercules. Also, Nathan is a president of the PRIDE Business Resource Group (BRG) for the Rotary and Mission Systems business area and recently attended Lockheed Martin’s PRIDE Leadership Forum. He aims to serve as a mentor in the community because he didn’t have role models who were out early in his career or college. To Nathan, it’s imperative to highlight the LGBTQIA+ community in both Finance and the aerospace and defense industry. A quote that inspires him to lead is, “Love takes off the masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within” – James Baldwin. Outside of work, he spends his time traveling and is his boyfriend’s “biggest fan,” while cheering him on during his races. Thank you, Nathan, for making our work culture a better place for future LGBTQIA+ teammates to feel comfortable and safe to be their true, authentic selves. Closing out May and Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, meet Raashi, vice president of F-35 Training & Logistics Solutions on our Rotary & Mission Systems team at Lockheed Martin. Raashi's parents moved to Syracuse, New York, from India when her dad saw an opportunity to start a new journey for their family. Her mom instilled Indian traditions and celebrations blended with American culture during her childhood. Raashi also credits her mom's courage, teaching her to be true to herself. She went from a career in engineering to a vice president of a Lockheed Martin market segment and the co-chair of the Professional Asian American Network National Business Resource Group. Raashi credits her mom's ideals when she cultivates the culture she wants on her Lockheed Martin team. She knows to follow her mom's mantra of working hard and showing up as your true self. This heritage month allows us to recognize and celebrate diverse talents and impactful contributions around our Lockheed Martin team. It’s #NationalMilitaryAppreciationMonth. To commemorate my immense appreciation for those who serve, I wanted to recognize one of our remarkable veterans at Lockheed Martin.   Meet Jack Cheung. At Lockheed Martin, Jack has worn many hats. He is a senior manager on the Canadian Surface Combatant Program, a critical component of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy to update its surface fleet. Before, he was a program manager for the Army’s Terrestrial Layer System rapid prototyping effort. Jack graduated from two of our prestigious leadership programs. He also holds awards from Asian Engineering organizations and is the Professional Asian American Network Chair.   While all of these hats Jack has worn at Lockheed Martin help our customers, I want to talk about another hat. Prior to his time at Lockheed Martin, Jack served eight years in the US Marine Corps and completed two combat tours in Iraq as a Platoon Sergeant. During this appreciation month, remember the hats active service members and veterans wear or have worn, even if you can’t see them like Jack’s in this photo. I’m excited to kick off a monthly HR Talent Spotlight series to highlight our amazing talent. Meet Vicki Alford, a dynamo who caught the HR wave 15 years ago. With a keen eye for talent and a knack for fostering a positive workplace culture, she is making a meaningful difference to our team and our business. 🏆 Key Highlights As a Lockheed Martin HR professional, Vicki has worked on numerous programs in support of our customers. She provides HR solutions to complex problems and partners closely with our Global Talent Acquisition team to ensure staffing requirements are met all over the world. On top of all that, she provides support and guidance to our leaders as an HR Navigator for LEADfirst, a nine month leadership development program for RMS first line leaders.
