Dearest LinkedIn Fam, have you ever seen a confusing ad? Quick story, I recently watched a TV advert with my family. The advert was a bit complicated, but as someone who studied Marketing, I could picture the direction the advertiser was aiming for. But my family had varying reactions. First my aunt goes ‘So do they mean bla bla bla or that?’ To keep it short, it reminded me of a conversation I had with someone about making an unclear statement. Especially when you are not physically present for the other person to read your facial expressions. Same apply to businesses promoting their offers to their target audience. Dr Flint McGaughlin, a renowned marketing and advertising expert said ‘Clarity trumps Persuasion'. I've always been a big fan of user-generated content and #influencermarketing. After spending the last few years marketing to college students, I know definitively that folks would rather hear from their peers on social media than from brands. The brands killing it on TikTok are doing just that! They're hiring creators to make branded content and then using that creator content as #TikTok ads. As a #marketer, I rely on Adobe tools a lot but know that there's still so much I don't know how to use, so I'm glad I found Lissette's TikTok. I love that she doesn't just "sell" #Adobe but actually shows you what the different products can do and how to do it. Truthfully, products like #Photoshop sell themselves when you see what all it can do. How cool is this tool?! I never knew it could do this! For example: Imagine a cat drinking Red Bull before catching a rat and just after finishing drinking, the cat starts flying and catches the rat like a falcon. Trust me, people can’t resist this. 2. Make an unexpected move: Advertising is all about surprising your audience. Show them something unexpected & never let them know your next move. They should comment “I didn’t see that coming” 😉 3. Emotions: Not all advertisers can succeed in this. Your video should be so relatable & emotional that it should make people laugh, cry, think, question or at least show anger. Doesn’t matter what path you choose, they should feel what you show. For example: Show to vegans that how your product is made without hurting any animal.
