Happy Women's Day! In today's corporate landscape, the buzzword "inclusivity" echoes through boardrooms and HR departments alike. Companies proudly tout their diverse workforce as a testament to their commitment to inclusivity. Yet, reality often falls short of the ideal. Diversity, while crucial, is merely the tip of the iceberg in the pursuit of true inclusivity. Picture this: an organization where every voice is not just heard, but truly listened to; where every individual is seen for their unique talents and perspectives, regardless of gender, race, or background. Look. Who are the people around you? 👀 ✴ The people who inspire you ✴ The people you influence ✴ The people who challenge you ✴ The people you support ✴ The people you collaborate with ✴ The people you celebrate with ✴ The people you impact Where & when do you share or ask for input? And is this intentional? 🤔 Being inclusive means pro-actively driving visibility & input among a whole lot of people both inside & outside of your organisation. Sharing the opportunity & giving others the ability to be a part of something. And intentionally including people who might not look, think or behave like you. It’s representation & everything that sits behind that. So. This International Women’s Day, take a moment to pause. Maybe ask your team to map out the people around them. Big circles will do nicely! Then say: 1. Are we missing a perspective? 2. Who needs to be a part of this? 3. Who can we help to grow? 4. Can we have a bigger impact? Too many women are still unseen or undervalued in the workplace.  Worldwide there are still more CEO’s named John, Andrew or Peter than female CEO’s, so we know women are still less likely to reach leadership positions.  One of the things we’re very committed to is women’s visibility in the workplace. My journey across the globe, from the cities of the UK and Eastern Europe to the vibrant landscapes of India, has offered me a unique vantage point, observing the nuanced interplay of cultures and ideologies in government sectors, the private realm, and public service. Here are 10 transformative ways to make each interaction a stepping stone towards a more inclusive world: 1. Welcoming Spaces In the circles that form in professional gatherings, is there room for all? I've observed women, poised and ready to contribute, yet finding no ingress into conversations. Let's be vigilant, extending our circles, both literally and metaphorically, to include all voices. 2. Valuing Voices The richness of a conversation multiplies with diverse perspectives Women bring directions that can transform a discussion's monotone to a palette of ideas. Let's not just allow women to speak; let's encourage it. 3. Authentic Listening I've seen women's words overlooked, their ideas mansplained, their contributions undervalued. Listening is an art that requires us to dismantle preconceptions and truly hear more. 4. Inclusivity in Design From the height of podiums to the aircon, every detail speaks volumes about who it's designed for. Observing with an inclusive lens can lead to simple changes that make a world of difference. 5. Redefining Leadership It's high time companies recognized the wealth of capable women ready to lead. Let's aim for a minimum of 30% women on boards, not as tokens, but as pivotal members driving forward. 6. Diverse Panels The stark absence of women in panel discussions and forums is a reflection of a deeper oversight in recognizing women's contributions across sectors that needs to change. 7. Collaboration over Competition The cutthroat world of corporate politics stops talented women from stepping into leadership roles. Can we dilute it for everyone's benefit? 8. Calling Out the Status Quo Change begins with confrontation. By calling out underhand comments or situations, we set the stage for transformative action. 9. Rethinking Engagement traditional after-hours events are not conducive for everyone. By reimagining the timings, we can ensure that everyone can engage, contribute, and shine. 10. Embracing Discomfort Challenging conversations lead to growth. By facilitating dialogues that may feel uncomfortable, we pave the way for understanding, empathy, and, ultimately, inclusion. Remember inclusion is a mindset - seeing the invisible barriers, hearing the silent pleas, and changing the unwritten rules.
