Why women need better options for wealth management : Research studies have found that these sentiments were more pervasive than we could have imagined. For example: - Making more than $250,000 a year don’t feel in control of their money. - Women, particularly women of color, are still , sorely underrepresented in the financial services industry, meaning a woman who needs a financial advisor most likely won’t be working with someone who understands her. The Women in Tech event at #OldMutual today was (in my view) a resounding success. I’m grateful to everyone who joined us for a day of inspiration, learning, and growth! We kicked-off the event with Ayanda Ngcobo, who captivated us with her talk on “Women Breaking Barriers”. Her insights on navigating business and breaking through the glass ceiling were truly motivating… She ended with a call to #RiseUp rather than shrinking back with her clarion call: “We’ve broken these barriers before!” Next, Bonita Field dived deep into the intriguing connection between biology and technology, emphasising the power of narrative in her session, “Collaboration between Biology and Technology - Why Narrative is Essential”. Her perspective shed light on the importance of storytelling through human interaction while leveraging the use of AI, with a caveat to keep in mind that AI can’t think intuitively (yet!). Her hypotheses that the use of our words matter was extraordinary… Let’s just say I’m going to buy her book - it was that good! After a productive networking break, Deidre Badenhorst took the stage with her session on “Reimagining and Transforming Your Feminine Financial Self”. Her advice on financial empowerment and redefining financial goals resonated with everyone in the room. #MeleniMoses then led a dynamic Public Speaking Masterclass, arming us with tools to communicate with confidence and clarity - crucial skills for any professional. Her narratives around “The Art of Communication is the Language of Leadership” were deeply insightful. She shared her story with passion and held the audience captive, ending off her session by highlighting the importance of the value behind how we tell our story to ensure it effects change in the lives of others. We closed out with a cutting-edge online presentation by Llewellan Vance on AI to Accelerate Your Business. He offered a practical, hands-on approach to being an entrepreneur. He showcased how entrepreneurs can leverage AI to scale their ventures. He led with saying: “A #startup is not a company, it is an experiment to see if a company deserves to exist”… And that had all of the attendees locked-in for a digital intelligence roadmap that can help us carve out the future. A massive thank you to the speakers, guests, and everyone behind the scenes who made this event happen.
