In the 2024 National Strategy for Suicide Prevention, Goal 6 recommends building and sustaining suicide prevention infrastructure at multiple levels. In many ways, that could also be framed as our first goal. "Infrastructure" is the backbone that all of our efforts depend on. As noted in the NSSP, you can find more information about what is needed for a solid infrastructure from the Suicide Prevention Resource Center (https://lnkd.in/g7BcqQnw). For more information about how well your region is doing on Goal 6, check out the State and Territorial Needs Assessment conducted by SPRC (https://sprc.org/sna/)

Due to recent events in Missouri, DMH-Office of Disaster Services has updated the Mass Violence webpage to ensure Missourians have access to information on general response and recovery, caregiver specific resources, prevention, available training, and where to find help. Mass violence events are human-caused tragedies that can impact whole communities. These types of events include shootings, acts of terrorism, or mass riots. Survivors may have feelings of confusion, fear, guilt, and helplessness. Sometimes, those with no personal connections to the event may even be impacted. It’s normal for people to experience emotional distress after an event. Find out more at the link below. https://lnkd.in/gemk9D96

Let's talk about water safety like we talk about firearm safety. We wouldn't leave a loaded gun around kids, so why take chances with pools or open water? It's time to educate ourselves and prioritize safety, especially for our little ones. Check out this video from the National Alliance of Drowning Prevention to learn more. #WaterSafety #DrowningPrevention #SafetyFirst
“I didn’t know” is a phrase we hear all too often in drowning prevention. Many people are completely unaware that drowning is the single leading cause of death among children ages 1-4. Drowning remains a leading cause of accidental death for older children. In this powerful video, hear firsthand from families who lost their children to drowning. Their stories are a stark reminder of the silent danger that water can pose and highlight the essential need for proactive drowning prevention measures. By raising awareness and educating others, we can work together to change these statistics and ensure the safety of our families. Watch, learn, and help us spread this life-saving message far and wide. #WaterSafetySeason2024 #DrownAlliance #DrowningPrevention

Have you considered the dangers of fires, big or small in your emergency planning and response program? Many Houses of Worship (HOW) utilize candles, matches, fire, and even kitchens. All of which can enhance the experience for members and guest. However, they also bring the risk of a fire. Recently, the historic Spanish Pentecostal Church of God in Cleveland Ohio was set a blaze. Fortunately, there wasn't any injuries to firefighters or civilians as a result of this Fire. This brings to mind a few questions: Who is responsible for reviewing the insurance policy of your House of Worship? If you could not conduct services at your HOW where would you go to continue services? - Is a virtual option viable? -Can you direct members to neighboring HOW? When was the last time your House of Worship conducted a fire drill? - Do you know the resources in your community? - Have you spoke with your Fire Prevention Office on ways to prevent and mitigate the impacts of Fire? - Have you discussed ways to plan and prepare for disasters with Emergency Management? Is your safety team and leadership familiar with evacuation procedures? Are volunteers and staff members trained in how to operate a Fire Extinguisher? Do you have a way to monitor your HOW when no one is there? Alarms with instant notifications paired with cameras can make for a real asset in communicating and documenting risk to first responders.
