My mother graduated in 1965 & got a teaching job at Government College, Ibadan. The teachers were given car loans & she bought a brand new Opel Kadett. They were to pay back the loan over 4 years. However, one of the teachers took half of the money the others took as loan.Bought a fairly used car & got a driver. So, when other teachers would drive to school & park their brand new cars, his driver would drop him off in the morning & come pick him at closing. My mum said they laughed at him, calling him "Acting Big Man" because he got a driver... But he'd just smile. One day, one of the teachers had cause to go out of the school during school hours. He returned to report that he saw his colleague's driver using his car as taxi! When they "reported" his driver to him, he said he was aware- that was why he hired a driver. Why park a car for 6-8 hours, when it can be making money for you? The other teachers were stunned: suddenly, he didn't look as stupid as they thought! Now, because of the extra income from using his car as a taxi, he was able to pay back the loan in a year... By the 2nd year, he bought a 2nd car to add to his taxi fleet. By the 3rd year, he bought 2 more taxis! By the 4th year when my mum & others finished paying their loans, this guy had 6 taxis. Then he bought a brand new Opel Kadett, the newer model! Other cars were 4 years old... My mum said, that was the moment they realised who was smart & who was foolish among them all. This happened 1965-1970. I was born 1968, in the midst of this. That story was told me in 1979 when I entered secondary school, FGC Sokoto. It has remained with me since then... Today, I see too many young folks more interested in spending the money they don't have to buy the things they don't need to impress people who don't like them. Too many people living fake lives in these days of social media. The Hushpuppi generation: fake it till you make it. I've seen people pose by cars they don't own to take pictures & post on social media. Young people don't seem to understand discretion: the competition to outdo each other in the "I've arrived" ranking is just too much. My niece, an undergraduate asked me to buy her a phone... I asked what type does she want: she mentioned a type, I checked the price: 300k! Now, I use an Infinix Hot 5 worth 35k, thereabouts- it was even a gift by one of my site contractors. But this 20 year old girl wants to use a 300k phone! Something is definitely wrong somewhere. Seriously, we can't continue like this. My generation is halfway out. I am afraid for the younger generation, those aged 16-30. I honestly don't know what this world would be like when they are in their 50s & 60s. May God's mercy prevail upon them, may He give them sense. Every young person needs to understand this! Author: Harry Daniyan

One of the tough parts about being a young doctor is: You have to make more high-stakes financial decisions in a short period of time (that window from end of training thru early-attending)... ...than almost ANY other profession. ❓ Figuring out your student loan payback ❓ Negotiating multi-six-figure job offers ❓ Getting a physician mortgage ❓ Getting disability and life insurance ❓ Planning for kids (for some) ❓ How much to save ❓ How to invest ❓ Plenty more... It's a lot to sort out. #Physicians #Doctors

How HMRC Aims to Ease the Student Helpline Burden HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has recognized the need to improve their customer service for students and has announced plans to reduce the number of students calling their helplines. One of the main challenges that students face when trying to contact HMRC is the overwhelming volume of calls they receive. This often leads to long wait times and difficulties in getting the help they need in a timely manner. Additionally, many students find the automated messages and complex jargon used by HMRC to be confusing and off-putting. In an effort to address these issues, HMRC has outlined several strategies to improve their customer service for students. One key initiative is to provide more self-service options online, allowing students to find answers to common questions and access resources without having to call the helpline. Additionally, HMRC plans to streamline their communication channels and make information more easily accessible and understandable for students. This may include simplifying language, creating more user-friendly guides, and offering online chat support for quicker assistance. In addition, HMRC are encouraging students to use the HMRC app to find their national insurance number instead of calling the helplines so that they can apply for a student loan for 24/25 academic year.

I just saw a job for operational manager, relocation required for max 57,000. Who that’s for? Seriously? Who are you trying to attract? Let’s break this down. Average 1bdroom- 1,000 (12) 12,000 for the year. Utilities- average 150 per month (12) 1800yr Car note: 300-500 per month, 3600- 6000yr Insurance: 150 per month, 1800yr Phone & internet: 100 per month, 1200 yr That’s already 17-20k. After taxes and insurance you’d bring home about 45,500 of that salary, leaving you about 20k. I didn’t factor in food, gas, or clothing. We can’t even discuss fun or entertainment. I also didn’t include if you happen to be a caregiver. I also didn’t include the cost of paying those student loans back. The cost of living is too high to pretend like 57,000 a year is enough for one person to live a healthy and manageable lifestyle.

MY NEPHEW WANTS TO BE A MECHANIC/A MESSAGE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE My nephew recently told us he would like to be a mechanic, and I could not be prouder of him. My comments to him were that besides learning mechanics, I told him to take some accounting, finance, and business courses. Being a businessman, he will need that. I told him to learn how to prepare a business plan. Finally, I told him to learn computers. In the next ten years, over 50 percent of cars will be electric.. Finally I told him the sky could be the limit for him in the future in his endeavor. I am proud of my nephew for several reasons. First, unlike some young people, he is focused and mature enough to know what he would like his life's work to be. He is not attending college and wasting his parent's money majoring in speech. Next, he is learning a skill where he can be a business owner and make a living anywhere in the world. He can own a successful business as a mechanic and, at the end of his work day, get into his Masserati if that is his choice of a vehicle and go home to his 10,000 square foot house and live right next to the high-paid executives. If you think this is impossible, your car has not been repaired lately. Depending on your car type, you can look at over 200.00 dollars an hour for a mechanic's time to thousands. On some high-end cars, an oil change can cost you thousands. I said all of this for the young people. Do like my nephew. Discover what will make you happy in your life's work. Do not be influenced by society. Some parents, especially in other cultures, will tell their children they have two career choices: a doctor or a lawyer. We then have some in these professions with hundreds of thousands in student loan debt who need to make more money. A certified mechanic can start at $60.00-$70.00 an hour, and they are in great demand. Finally, with the computerization of cars, fixing cars differs from when I was growing up. You would see a dude under a car covered in grease-fixing vehicles in a work uniform from head to toe. Today, they wear polos and plastic gloves fixing cars because they work on 5,000-pound computers. Peace

A lawsuit filed by conservative lobbyists could defeat President Joe Biden's plan to forgive student loan debt even if it is not won by a court. The suit seeks to address a long-standing income-driven repayment IDR plan, which forgives the debts of student loan borrowers who make monthly payments for 20 or 25 years #UniversityOfMiami #MackinacCenterForPublicPolicy #Missouri #DonaldTrump #RepublicanPartyStates #IndonesianRupiah #SupremeCourtOfTheUnitedStates #JoeBiden #UnitedStates #CatoInstitute #UnitedStatesCongress #UnitedStatesDepartmentOfEducation #PublicServiceLoanForgiveness #UnitedStatesDollar #Welfare
