Our #HHSMontcoPA Office of Senior Services (OSS) is proud to participate in SAGECare credentialing as part of our ongoing commitment to serving LGBTQ+ older adults. SAGECare is a cultural competency training program for: Skilled nursing facilities Health care organizations Assisted living communities Hospice and palliative care Long-term care communities Home health providers Anyone providing services to older adults When surveyed, 9 out of 10 individuals in the LGBTQ+ community feared discrimination in care settings if providers knew their sexual orientation or gender identity. These trainings help service providers create more LGBTQ+-welcoming organizations, and obtaining credentials help LGBTQ+ people find those trained providers. More info available here: https://lnkd.in/erH3_DjC OSS is credentialed via SAGECare, with our last credentialing occurring in 2020. All staff of OSS completed requisite training in order to establish that credential. In the fall of 2024, we anticipate renewing our credential and leveling up to Platinum Credentialing. Thank you to the Pennsylvania Department of Aging for sponsoring the management training series.

"When LGBT+ young people are supported at home and at school, they are able to flourish in adulthood. When school and home are not supportive environments, LGBT+ young people face worse mental health and higher levels of shame and are far less confident that they will be able to achieve the things that adults typically hope to. The consequences are vast and serious. Unsupported LGBT+ young people are half as likely to be happy in adulthood." Just Like Us Positive Futures Report: How supporting LGBT+ young people enables them to thrive in adulthood. The full report has some great recommendations for how school staff can support LGBTQ+ young people and highlights the significant difference they can make... https://ow.ly/OiMg50Slj37 #LGBTYouth #MentalHealthMatters #InclusiveEducation #TraumaInformed
