Halftime review of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) 2015-2030. We are urgently calling and crying for world leaders including all of us to recommit to the goals, the best plan we have for people and the planet. Either we heal now as a team or we will die as individuals.  In 2015, 193 world leaders agreed on the SDGs, a mission guide to empower businesses and communities to commit to all #17Goals through evaluation, expert support, and education, which aims to end poverty, reduce inequalities, and combat the climate crisis by 2030. We are dedicated to advancing sustainable development fostering unbiased access to opportunities, and creating a better world for all. Unfortunately, halftime has passed, and with only six years to go, we're only on track to achieve 15% of the goals. Inequalities have grown deeper, 350 million people could go hungry, and at our current pace, we could be three centuries away from achieving gender equality. In the match of our lives, we are losing. A guide to sustainable development for businesses in Switzerland 🌱 🇨🇭   The Swiss Federal Council has enacted an action plan with 22 measures for the years 2024–2027, with the goal of accelerating the 2030 Agenda. Companies can help address the climate issue by conserving resources and reducing emissions through initiatives like boosting energy consultations or designing photovoltaic systems for entire municipal regions. On this #SustainabilitySunday, let’s reflect on the journey that led to the creation of the United Nations. Established on October 24, 1945, in the aftermath of World War II, 50 nations came together to work towards a future of peace, prosperity, and human rights for all. The UN Charter, their guiding document, set the stage for a world that strives to break free from the cycle of violence, conquest, and dominance that history had witnessed for centuries. Throughout the years, our collective awareness has evolved, recognizing the urgent need for a more inclusive and sustainable world. Yet, remnants of the old mindset persist today. That's where the 17 Sustainable Development Goals come into play. Goal 5.5, in particular, seeks to empower women's full and effective participation across all levels of leadership – be it political, economic, or public life. Until we reach that goal, history might keep repeating itself. How can we collectively shape a world where 50% of leadership roles are held by women? Under Republican leadership, the US House of Representatives is slashing funding for gender equality initiatives across the globe—and climate justice hangs in the balance. In a Council on Foreign Relations blog, Global Fund for Women's President and CEO Latanya Mapp Frett sounds the alarm at the recent delay in funding the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) program and a reversal of promised funds for USAID-funded Women’s Economic Security and Localization Activity. Both programs require funding as pathways to supporting real, long-term solutions for global sustainability and gender justice.     Defunding these programs sends the message to global partners that the United States is backing away from its position as a champion for the climate, health, and gender equality worldwide, just asclimate justice will be on the global stage at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (#COP28) later this week, In today’s interconnected world, we know that global public health crises and climate threats don’t just happen “over there.” Working towards equitable and resilient communities is our collective responsibility if we are to weather the challenges that lie ahead.
