Why you should start your hiring process now instead of waiting until January ⌛👇 👉 Notice periods - the most obvious one. The majority of candidates I work with are on 3 month notice periods. If they handed their notice in today, they won't be joining you until Monday 19th February. 👉 Time to hire - linking in with the above point, by the time you have actually made the offer, the above date can be prolonged by an additional month or two (Unless you work with me exclusively, where on average I fill a role in 2-3 weeks) 👉 Team integration - you can invite the new starter to the Christmas party! Is there a better way to integrate a new hire before they've even started, than inviting them to the work Christmas party? 👉 Pressure on your team - if you are currently stretched, how do you think your team feels? I'm so grateful for you believing in me." I hired her when she was 17 to answer our phones and be a receptionist. I don't think there is any higher praise than that and it made my heart feel full. We hired her when she was putting herself through college at Cal State Long Beach and majoring in Accounting. Pretty soon she was our office manager and doing our bookkeeping. She worked for us for 6 years. We were a small company back then and able to help pay for some schooling. We helped pay for her accounting courses. I admired her so much. She worked hard and was determined to complete her degree. And she did. She has held titles of: Accounting Manager, Staff Accountant, Sr. Accountant, Sr Accountant/Cost Accountant, Sr. Financial Analyst/Cash and Revenue Accounting Supervisor, Regional Business Office Manager, Controller and she has her side hustle as a professional bookkeeper. We offer our support to our present and past employees, and even clients, with their careers. I have written recommendations, been a reference, sent job openings, and provided critiques of resumes when asked. To those open to work..what are you actually looking for? A job that pays well according to your qualifications , a job that pays well on experience or a job that pays according to your values, character, experience and qualifications. With just a diploma back in the early 1990's I started as a filing clerk with no experience , but back then the rand had value and so the salary was ok for a while until I moved jobs...Companies no longer pay according to interest rate hikes or according to inflation. Graduates find themselves in jobs lower ranked than that of their qualifications , why is that. Can you remember when your dad would say he started in a factory working on machines until he became manager, or your mum would say I started at the bottom and worked myself up. If you are really keen and independent to wanting to be at a certain company and you have a passion for it , start at the bottom and learn the company all the way up . Learn it's values, it's procedures and processes, learn what it feels like to work in a mail room and work your way up the ladder from there. You might end up in management but atleast you would have gained a broader knowledge of the company you working for than just being hired according to your certificates. It's the way to building communication and team building which builds a stronger company.

🤔 Did you know what you wanted to do when you left school? This is how my school careers adviser's advice shaped my career in shipping containers 😁 So, I was sent to a very good school way back when and although I wasn't academic my main subjects were Maths and Domestic science (cooking). My careers officer, in her wisdom, suggested I should be a Nanny, thank you Miss Cross! 😁 Just goes to show the careers officer's have no idea about what to suggest. Anyway, I knew exactly what I wanted to do when I left school and that was to run my own restaurant or hotel, so I went to college and did a BTEC diploma is Hotel management and institutional operations, which I passed and went on to be a receptionist in a local hotel. Shortly after that I realised that the catering trade wasn't for me, so I applied for about 5 jobs and only had 1 reply, which was for a 'Data processing clerk' in a Shipping container company known as 'Unicon' and that's where it all started.
