🚨 Personal(ish) Post Alert 🚨 Yesterday was a historic day in my home country #Denmark. The Queen of Denmark Margrethe II stepped down and her son, now King Frederik X stepped up... 👑 👏 This is an unusual move, as the sitting Queen or King normally reign until their death.. But not this Queen. She's always recognized the monarchy's place in a modern society and understood, that it was time to make a change and let the very popular King Frederik X take the reins. In full disclosure. I served in the Danish Army under the Royal Guards branch protecting the Queen and her family and have had the honor of meeting the royal family a few times. So yes - I'm a bit biased here, but I still often wonder how a monarchy fit into a 2024 modern society. But after watching the scenes from Copenhagen yesterday as the King ascended the throne, I think it's clear - it's about unity. We as people - humans, need something to unite around.. something to believe in, to dream about, to feel good and positive about in the midst of all the bad... in Denmark, it's the Royal Family (who BTW have an approval rating of staggering 90%!!) I know. Denmark is a small country (5,5M). A tiny speck on the map. Racial diversity is present, but not institutional. Politicians are respected and government institutions are trusted. Corruption is a non-issue. All of this matters in a modern democracy with a 1000+ year old monarchy, that no longer has political influence. And there's lot's of history tied to the Royal institution. Good but certainly bad as well. It has not gone lost on me. But it's how we move forward we're judged, I believe. Recognize history, what happened and learn from it as we have a chance to do better. The King understands this (so did the Queen BTW). He calls it "togetherness" and it comes with a slice of humble-pie. It's not a weakness, but a strength. Showing emotions in public (he was very emotional during his speech on the balcony in front of thousands of people) makes it okay and makes you human. Empathy is a good thing (and needed!) to be a leader that unifies people. Without it, it becomes the opposite. Yes. I understand this is a very untraditional post from me, but I felt compelled to share, as I today write this and celebrate MLK Day here in the US. We need more unity and "togetherness" in the world. Peacefully and regardless of which shape and form it comes. #KingFrederik10 #MLKday #Togetherness https://lnkd.in/e8B4ET6R

So cool to learn this about you, and really appreciate this post - go Denmark!

Thank you for sharing, my friend. A needed encouragement to ALL that unity is possible.
