I think wisdom is the most disgusting thing you can imagine. We have the capacity to embody various aspects of human nature. We become the reality of what we entertain within ourselves. The early human civilizations used symbolic allegories to reveal the innate truth of man and his reality. The ancient wise men, fashioned stories of gods and demons, heavens and hells, and the constant battle of good and evil after long contemplations into the human psyche. It's no coincidence that the creation stories from different ancient civilizations share a very similar back story, with characters having similar essences and natures. The quote from Joseph Campbell suggests a powerful notion and an essential truth. We acknowledge the gods within us when we embrace our curiosity for transcendence, wisdom, and divine inspiration. It's when we tap into our inner strength, resilience and determination as we overcome life's challenges that we embody the gods. And we confront the hells within us when we face the darker aspects of our nature. It compels us to confront our fears, insecurities and the destructive behaviors and in so doing gain insight into our shadow selves resulting in a deeper understanding of who we are. This primeval fear is embedded in the way we think and plan our lives. Instead, consider this idea; we have all the time in the world - until we don’t. In the space of the last 36 months I’ve chosen to do something extraordinary. In order to do so, I’ve thought about, lived and now embodied a different way of considering time. If you let it, the conventional concept of time becomes ever more oppressive as you grow older. It doesn’t have to be that way. “Eternity isn't some later time. Eternity isn't even a long time. Eternity has nothing to do with time. Eternity is that dimension of here and now that all thinking in temporal terms cuts off.... the experience of eternity right here and now, in all things, whether thought of as good or as evil, is the function of life.”Joseph Campbell.
