I hope today's newsletter can be the start of an ongoing conversation about how athletic departments can better reach out to new fans, especially Latinos. Producing broadcasts in Spanish (or Portuguese) can be expensive and very complicated, but that doesn't have to be the only way schools can try to build bridges with their communities. The best way to do it will look different from market to market...and I hope this newsletter helps explain that a bit.

It's teacher appreciation week, and as a former teacher, I have some ideas on how we can appreciate our hard-working educators all year, not just this week: 1. Clear their classroom wish lists. Message any teacher you know right now, and I bet you they will have an Amazon wish list or DonorsChoose campaign you can support.  2. If your child has a supportive teacher, one they are learning from and whose class they enjoy going to, write them a genuine, kind, positive email and tell them this. I used to have a folder of positive messages I would read on hard days; they really go a long way.  3. Get involved in your local school board meetings. Give vocal support for teachers to determine what students must learn based on their professional training and experience, not based on fear of backlash from a few outspoken parents who want to restrict not only what their own child reads but what all children read.  Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all educators! 💙
