My decision to raise Construex’s seed financing round this year was not just about obstinacy and my will to prove many people wrong. It was about my trust in what we have built. Mostly it was about the conviction in our vision. This year was possibly the worst year in decades for a Latin American startup (Ecuadorian-born company ) to raise a seed financing round, but against all odds we did it. As a Latin American founder who has been bootstrapping his business for many years, I believe that emerging-market-bootstrappers develop a set of skills that are advantageous, compared to founders from developed economies. We have faced business’ ups and downs, we have been dealing with political and economical instability since always and this has forced us to become resourceful, to find ways out and to inherently become resilient, scrappy and stubborn. A year ago we were into the acceleration process at Alchemist Accelerator, where I met Ravi Belani and Daniel Collins fundamental for where we are now.  On our journey I met an investor who told me that he was not willing to invest in Construex because we had been bootstrapping for too long. I think that solid and down to earth models will always be interesting.
