Who would’ve thought that this kid, 16 years later, would accept a position at his favorite auto manufacturer?

I have to credit my dad for my love for cars. After immigrating to the US from Hong Kong, he spent most of his working career as an auto salesman. I grew up poking around his Toyota showroom, and he moved over to sell BMWs later on. When I was finally learning how to drive, he taught me in his silver 2002 BMW 330xi. This was the moment that I fell in love with BMWs.
After his passing in early 2020, he left me that car to keep as a project. I knew I wanted to do something special with it, but plans took a pause due to the pandemic.
This past summer, my friends and I spent a couple months restoring “Dad’s E46”, and I embarked on a 6-week-long cross-country road trip in honor of him, to visit the places he had visited on a road trip on the West Coast in the 90s, and to experience all of the places that I wished we had the chance to see together. As I was on my way to visit White Sands National Park, I received the call that I had been so anxiously awaiting for weeks. I was offered the position for Senior Engineer, Safety Engineering at BMW of North America, LLC. Dad made all the stars align.
As I start this new journey, I feel nothing but great gratitude for all those that got me here. My time at Subaru was absolutely fantastic, and without their mentorship, I would not be able to make this leap in my career. Thank you Maurice Arcangeli, Jill Ann DiVone, Subaru of America for the past two years, and for showing me what it means to serve the community by living the Love Promise.
Thank you to my superwomen, Becky Mueller and Karine Frédérique Loriot, for always believing in me and for nudging me forward. Thank you Mike Hernandez for your advice and inside scoop.
Of course, last but not least, thank you Zdravko Miric and BMW of North America, LLC for this opportunity of a lifetime to engineer the Ultimate Driving Machine. I’m excited for what lies in the road ahead, and I’m sure my dad is too.
