Business Development/Marketing: - Researched and developed relationships to provide athletes and teams with essential brands for optimal performance. - Recognized as a trusted professional, promoting strong partnerships through consistent delivery of results. - Generated significant new business proposals, totaling nine figures, within a short timeframe by applying proven standards. - Built a comprehensive catalog of products tailored to meet the needs of sports professionals. Content Creation: - Produced over 10 commercials for the company, effectively advertising new products and driving sales. - Authored more than 12 scripts for engaging radio commercials. - Developed a multi-faceted sponsorship presentation for a potential client, with a total value exceeding $1 billion. -Created a robust CRM system from scratch to streamline operations for the new sports catalog. Here’s my best advice for people looking to build authority: Share what you know. If you believe what you have to say isn’t relevant - think again. We all have a unique blend of: - experiences - observations - communications - education - skills All these factors make our knowledge unique. It makes our brand unique. We get further by working together… I know I’ve done a few posts on this but it’s been a recent topic in our house. As a dad of 3 kids, teamwork is so important in our household and I preach it daily. If I can manage to get all 3 of them on the same page and working together, life is so much easier!! It’s the same way in business. As a Brand Manager, it was my job to get every part of the organization on the same page and buying into my vision for the brand. The Executive Team needs to be on-board with the overall vision. Without their buy-in, it’ll be hard to get anything accomplished. I needed creative to understand what the look, feel and voice should be. Sales, manufacturing and trade marketing need to understand the growth objectives so we can ensure product is available, distribution is expanding and we have funds to promote. Legal needs to provide direction and guidance to ensure we’re following the regulations correctly. Finance needs to provide timely and accurate reporting to track spending so I can make sure we’re hitting our budget numbers and actually making a profit. It’s the same way as a sales manager also. You need your reps to understand and buy-in to the objectives that are set. Distribution partners need to know the goals and our retail partners have to know what’s expected of their locations. There’s a ton of moving parts and personalities to deal with in all of these situations. Collaboration and understanding their point of view is part of teamwork as well. Taking the time to listen and learn will benefit everyone and lead to a greater chance of success!! What are some other keys to success and building a productive team? What can youth sports teach us about looking for a job? As kids, we likely played multiple sports. As we got older, the best athletes began to narrow the amount of sports they played. While they might have been good at more than one sport, they chose the one that they had the highest potential in. They picked the sport they could be great at. Looking for a job is similar. What are you the best at? There are so many times when I talk to a job seeker and they tell me, “I can do sales, marketing, customer success…” I know their intention is to sound flexible and in theory, this triples the amount of job opportunities. Maybe they want to show that they are willing to tackle anything! But the truth is, it makes them sound like they aren’t the best at anything or uncertain of what they really want to do. If you are looking for an entry level role, this might be sufficient but as you climb the ladder you need to narrow your focus. This is also where the bigger salaries are. Companies want to hire people who are highly skilled at one or two things. They don’t want to hire person who thinks they can do sales, marketing and CS. They want to hire person who is an expert in demand gen or the person who knows exactly how to build a customer success playbook. If you are looking for your next role, I recommend taking some time to list out the things that you are great at. Think about how those things can help make an impact for a company. Next, come up with a concise way to communicate this value to hiring managers.
