I had a lovely chat with Lev Perlman 🇬🇧 about MotherBoard and the importance of allyship within the tech industry. “tech is the one industry where such a change is really easy to implement; The absolute majority of roles in tech can be done fully remotely, and using flexible hours - these are the two most basic requirements for working parents.” I couldn't agree more with the above statement, which is why it's so frustrating as a recruiter to hear of so many businesses calling staff back to the office. The lack of flexible working is dramatically impacting your shortlists for tech roles. If you want more diversity of thought within your tech teams, and teams that include women and mothers - be flexible - the rigidity is really holding you back from accessing a pool of very talented developers. #diversityandinclusion #technology #womenintech #whomenwhocode #womenempoweringwomen #softwaredevelopers #softwareengineers

A key to startup success is to create awareness about what you're doing in the context of the problem, you are looking to solve. Trying to create awareness leads to mixed results. You can spend a fortune marketing yourself out of making one sale of your product, but if you're looking to change conviction and create a lasting impact it takes longer. A lot longer. And it requires more tenacity - being in the right places at the right time - and patience - time - than marketing spend. You cannot buy yourself into creating 'a movement'. It’s beginning to look a lot like WiCXMas 🎅🏼🎄☃️ As we approach the end of 2023 and prepare to celebrate our 3rd Christmas at Women in CX ™ I’m feeling reflective. 🚨 This time last year we were in serious trouble ⛔️Our debts were mounting and cashflow in the red ❌ I wasn’t going to be able to make payroll in Jan We were at serious risk of becoming part of the ‘90% of startups fail within the first 3 years’ statistic 😱 In December 2023, I made a solid business plan, secured funding from Virgin Startup and used the £ to diversify our revenue streams. **** So, this year is a different story… 🏡 We opened WiCX Consulting House and attracted a number of major clients 🤝 We signed major sponsorship and partnership deals with incredible brands 🔥 We delivered our 2nd global gathering conference in London attracting double the attendees 💰 We invested 100% back into our community and growing the team that serves our members **** So as of this month, we have made it back to zero!! It seems like a strange thing to celebrate but becoming profitable and recouping the entire first two years of financial loss is actually a really big deal. If you’re in a similar situation and navigating the challenges of early stage business, you’re not alone. All I can say is keep going and don’t be afraid to diversify💥 **** Looking ahead to 2024 as we evolve to become Women in CX: The Movement for Human Centred Buinsess we can’t wait for what comes next.
