Mukund Krishnaswami’s Post

I first heard Peter Lynch speak in 1993. I was a freshman at The Wharton School and the finance world was overwhelming and confusing to me (although I probably didn’t let on how I felt). But, Peter demystified the finance world for me; I remember him musing: ‘just invest in things you can see and feel and know’, and ‘the best businesses keep people coming back every day’. I’ve kept these tenets in mind and so much of my career has been shaped by this. Just take a look at the portfolio we have built at Lighthouse Funds and you will see his influence on me. So, imagine my thrill to run into Peter at the check-in line at the airport. I was too excited to actually thank him for his influence on my career. (If anyone connected to me knows him personally, please pass this along!) I should note my younger son (in typical 13-year-old style) thought my excitement should be reserved for the likes of meeting Messi or Federer. I tried to explain to him that meeting Peter was a bigger thrill for me. And he was kind, generous with his time, self-deprecating and everything you hope for when you meet your career heros. He even offered to retake this photo (without the men’s room sign behind us). But a long check-in line with a bathroom sign behind us seemed strangely appropriate.

@Mukund that’s an amazing run-in and I can imagine your excitement ! Mr Lynch and Mr Buffet hv been 2 long-standing guru’s for me - hv read mostly everything about them over the years and both always talk about the genius of thinking long term … think one of them said, selling my best performing investments would be like cutting the flowers and watering the weeds … the best usually keep getting better and you are better off keeping them :)

Sometimes I wonder how we keep finding the celebrity (needle) in the population of 8 billion (haystack). For everyone, their first book on the stock market is 'One up...' by Lynch. Can totally understand the excitement....

What a wonderful circumstance, Mukund! Peter Lynch is a legend in his own rights and he has influenced many careers. Honoring people who have helped becoming who we are is a great show of gratitude. The smiles in the picture attest of the fun you two were having.
