The UK exodus of millionaires is expected to hit 9500 in 2024, that’s double the number from 2023 according to Henley & Partners - The Firm of Global Citizens® annual Private Wealth Migration Report. We know the reasons for the trend, and it's highly likely to continue!
Whilst there is already a strong awareness of the astonishing growth in family offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai and Abu Dhabi to cater for the needs of the UHNWI’s, I was delighted yesterday to see that the Caribbean, remains a compelling choice for UHNWs, Family Offices and MFOs.
Kudos to WealthBriefing and The Bahamas Financial Services Board for organising such a timely thought leadership event, bringing together and demonstrating the joined up approach that The Bahamas offers to private investment, regulatory positioning and policy creation. Especially through the contributions on the day of many key decision makers, such as LaTonia Symonette-Tinker, CAMS - Chair, BFSB, Senator the Hon. Michael Halkitis, CFA, CAMS, Minister of Economic Affairs , Senator the Hon. Ryan Pinder - Attorney , General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Brandace Duncanson - Director of Financial Services, Ministry of Economic Affairs , Christina R. Rolle - Executive Director, Securities Commission of The Bahamas, John Rolle - Governor, Central Bank of The Bahamas, Niekia Horton - CEO & Executive Officer, The Bahamas Financial Services Board and many many more excellent contributions.
In a further discussion I had directly with John Rolle, Governor, Central Bank of The Bahamas it was clear that The Bahamas remains a key destination for fiduciary services, estate and trust administration and servicing, with legal frameworks regularly reviewed, a developing investment into innovation and also digital asset frameworks (incl. a CBDC). The Bahamas continues to proactively engage in global and UN related initiatives, especially representations on climate change and also supporting the voice of the Global South. Most importantly of all, investment in its people to strengthen the level of local expertise and ensure continuity of service.
For the tangible requirements of wealth and asset managers, MFOs, family offices and UHNWIs, The Bahamas offers continued stability, demonstrable international institutional presence to enhance its reputational position and leveraged expertise, a strong home-grown talent base that is supported and invested in and proactive legislation based on a close working relationship between business, regulators and policy makers. The strategic location to the US, LATAM and the UK continues to make The Bahamas a compelling choice.
If any of my network would like further information on establishing a base in the Caribbean, feel free to reach out directly - I’d be delighted to discuss your growth plans and/or refer you to a trusted relationship.
